I just can't get over your bizarre takes lately. Obama's Presidency? This is Congress - which is even more dysfunctional than the White House. Nothing is even reaching the President's desk.

True dat about Congress. I guess I'm despondent about the whole situation with our government. Nothing hardly ever gets done. Obama seems to thrown up his hands about his relationship with the Repubs even before the last election. With Hillary on the horizon I guess I'm depressed at the future of our government.

Looks like a longer-term budget deal has been worked out:

Congressional leaders on Tuesday night reached agreement on a year-end spending and tax deal that would prevent a government shutdown and extend a series of tax breaks that benefit businesses and individuals, according to lawmakers.

....The tax break package would cost about $650 billion and extend around 50 credits for businesses and individuals while also delaying until 2017 a tax on medical device manufacturers.

The approximately $1.1 trillion appropriations package would fund the government for the remainder of fiscal 2016 and contains a two-year delay of the Affordable Care Act’s so-called Cadillac Tax on expensive employer-sponsored health care plans as well as a delay of a tax on health insurance plan purchases.

The spending bill also would lift the 40-year ban on crude oil exports. In exchange for allowing this provision, Democrats secured the extension of tax breaks for wind and solar energy producers for five years.

The odds of a government shutdown just went up to about 50/50 thanks to Trump's unhelpful tweets.

No matter what happens, if you have control of all branches of government and still can't prevent a shutdown, the majority of people are going to blame the party in power. That's the way it works, spin all you want. If they won't leave the Obamacare subsidies in place...watch out.

And it's not like Ted Cruz or the GOP paid any real price for his 13 day shutdown stunt in 2013.

If he's already tweeting like this against the Dems, will really enjoy the reaction to the Blumenthal/Senate "conflict of interest/emoluments clause" lawsuit again Trump.

Details on the agreement to fund the government through the rest of the fiscal year:

The estimated $1-trillion omnibus package would provide $12.5 billion in increased military funding, about half the amount Trump requested from Congress. Another $2.5 billion for defense is available if the administration submits a counter-terrorism strategy to fight Islamic State.

But the final deal failed to include the big cuts to domestic non-defense accounts that Trump was seeking, and thus emerged as something of an embarrassment to the White House in his first budget negotiation with Congress.

It actually would increase federal spending on medical research, green energy programs and other areas that the White House had pegged for sharp reductions. Under it, the National Institutes of Health would see an increase of 6%, or $2 billion.

Though the package does include $1.5 billion for border security, the money is expected to pay for technology and infrastructure repairs along the Southwest border, not more detention facilities or deportation officers.

The legislation is also free of more than 160 policy riders intended to restrict abortion access, loosen financial regulations or serve other Republican priorities that could have doomed Democratic support. It notably would not cut money for Planned Parenthood, a White House target.

The top Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.), noted that $68 million was added "to reimburse law enforcement agencies for costs incurred helping to protect President Trump and the First Family,” including his adult children.

Trump engineered the fiscal standoff shortly after he was elected, insisting late last year that Congress should fund the government for only a few months so he could put his stamp on federal spending as the new president.

The bill also includes $295 million to help assist Puerto Rico’s struggling Medicaid program and $2 billion in disaster funding for several states, including California, West Virginia, Louisiana and North Carolina. There is $407 million for fighting wildfires in the West.

Among the new domestic spending is $100 million to stem the opioid drug crisis, as well as money for infrastructure investments in Amtrak, particularly along its East Coast rail service.

Both sides would like to put the threat of government shutdowns aside, especially as Republicans try to mark some legislative accomplishments under Trump after failing — twice — to garner enough votes in the House to bring a proposed replacement bill for Obamacare to the floor for a vote.

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) can afford to lose only about two dozen votes from his ranks, but the final budget package is expected to draw wide support from Democrats.

Earlier Sunday, Trump complained that his first 100 days in office taught him that Congress moves slowly, with “arcane” rules.

If approved, the omnibus deal would fund the government through the end of the fiscal year, Sept. 30.

He doesn't have time to golf. He sits in the White House making great deals.

We will all be sick of winning pretty soon.

He went golfing for the 20th time in his Presidency this weekend. That was after a fundraiser on Friday and a campaign rally on Saturday.

That's some world class negotiation right there by Trump. Really took it to them.

Art of the Deal!

edit: I actually think that we'd have a budget that was much more Republican-friendly had Clinton won right now. Congressional Republicans are in a lot of disarray right now, and there's obviously no leadership coming from the White House on this sort of stuff. If Clinton had won, they'd have been united behind total opposition. This budget is the result of the non-HFC group of Republicans negotiating with a majority of Democrats to come up with a compromise funding bill. If you're someone who actually likes a functional government and a legislature that actually knows how to do its job, this is a good sign.

Fully expect a shut down, and Democrats should make it happen. They're the minority. GOP holds all the positions of power. If there's no agreement that can be made, it's on them.

As President Bartlet said, "Shut it down".

There is some talk here of Texas and Florida working together to trigger a shutdown over the fact that the final hurricane disaster supplement proposed to Congress by the administration (not even passed out of committee) is only 1/5 or so of what is actually needed to rebuild from this summer and those states are otherwise SOL.
