I didn't say forfeit the series were it to come to fruition. I'm just giving my opinion on what I think would happen without letting my White Sox fandom influence me.

Sorry, I misunderstood you then.

Biggest understatement ever. We have one of the worst offenses in baseball. At least in 2005 we were middle of the pack. I mean come on, it's a struggle to get 2 or 3 runs on most nights.

Actually we are about in the middle of the pack Offensively this year. 16 out of 30 in BA, lower in runs. Since the all star break we are incredibly inferior.

You can't go by all MLB though since we play with a DH (who really might as well be a pitcher). In the AL, we are 12/14 based on runs.

You don't need a "stopper" to win a championship. You simply need effective pitching.

And, yes, I believe that Peavy can be an effective #4 in a 7-game series.

With the way Danks is pitching now, he is a stopper. And he is a guy who pitches well in high-pressured games. He is the anti-Gavin Floyd.

Mark is not due for a setback. He may have one, but he is not due. Mark has been one of baseball's best pitchers the last decade for a reason, and this year, he is getting ample rest. The rest I agree with you on, though.

And if you look at his history over the last five years, he most definitely is due for a setback. I hope he keeps this streak of quality starts going, but chances are he'll have a few starts in a row where he gets beat up.

Yes, if Danks keeps this up the remainder of the year then I'd feel a little more confident. He's looked terrific his last couple starts.

We were one of the worst teams in baseball in July offensively.

And if Dunn and Rios begin to hit anywhere near the career averages down the stretch, we'll be a respectable offense again.

How many starters do you need in a best of 5? Only 3. And I haven't heard anything about Buchholz not coming back.

So they have one stud pitcher, one great pitcher who has struggled against the White Sox, and yes, Buchholz's back is starting to be a major concern. Unless they trade for a 3rd starter (which they probably will), it's not the most dangerous rotation in the world.

No one is picking the White Sox to win the series or saying that they should be favored. But it is just a 5-game series, not a 162-game season, and the White Sox do have the pitching to at least compete with Boston. I think the BoSox huge offensive advantage would probably win them the series, but that's no guarantee.

It's not going to happen. I can still see Dunn getting better but Rios is a lost cause. Frankly, I'm hoping De Aza goes on a magical run.

If I had a dollar for every time this sentence has been repeated I could buy my favorite pornstar (Lorena Sanchez) for one night.

I realize its an inflammatory thing to say...just feels like we are going to win just enough to make it close and flame out...Sorry for being so negative and cynical

If I was Williams, trading Quentin would be a risk I'd be willing to take. Not only considering the possible return package, but my own job security. Figure, if nothing is done and we don't make the playoffs, it could be his end. If this trade is done and we still miss the playoffs, nothing changes, he'll still on the block. It wouldn't matter either way if he truly believes this team isn't fit to win the division.

I have to believe those in charge are smarter than the mopes filling the stands. No one should be frightened with trading a sought after commodity because of random people suggesting "white flag" or an attendance drop. Many here are just afraid of a different approach. They'd rather every season follow the same formula of always believing they're in it (aside from 07') and whatever happens in September happens. We'll just try it all over again.

I'm sure Williams knows how this script will go, even if we're within striking distance of first.

Dunn has been picking it up and giving us better at bats, Rios sucks balls.

Looking at the sortable team stats for the Sox makes me feel sick to my stomach. This is a prime reason why we need to unload Quentin for some young talent. This team as constructed is just not good.

word is, #astros dont love #phillies prospects (maybe not even brown). this is becoming real soap opera. #youngandrestless

We'll take them Philly, come here!

Somebody needs to remind Ed Wade that he's horrible and that franchise is by far the most pathetic in baseball. That original Phillies package of Cowart, Singelton and another high upside prospect was a pretty damn good offer.

Hopefully the Phils get pissed, call KW and offer Brown+ and we take it. That would be ridiculous.

Prior to this season, Dunn was one of the most consistent hitters in baseball. It's not ridiculous to expect him to turn it around, once and if his BABIP ever returns to career norms. Looking at his numbers, it's just impossible to explain why he's been this bad. I know I expect him to turn it around any day now. I've said that all season and I'll keep saying it.

It's not unprecedented for a player around his age to just lose it.

Yes, apparently the 'Stros would rather trade Pence to Atlanta and get their hands on some of that minor league pitching talent that they have. The road block on everything at this moment appears to be Atlanta's reluctance to part with those pitching prospects. And that's discouraging, because if Houston cannot convince them to include those players in a package for Pence, it's going to be even more difficult for KW to convince the Braves to part with them for Quentin. Meanwhile, Philadelphia appears to remain a lot more liberal in terms of what they are willing to deal.
