Indians awarded claim on Thome

If the Sox did work something out with Thome, what would they have to give up? Why not just offer to take on the salary from the Twins or give them $1 million to take him off their hands. Giving up players for him doesn't make much sense, especially when this team keeps losing.

I really doubt the Sox are willing to give up something for him.

Can we now change the thread title that the Sox did not claim Thome???

Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal

Sources: #Indians awarded claim on Thome, #WhiteSox awarded claim on Kubel. Thome has no-trade clause; preference is #Phillies.

I would be shocked if Thome approved a trade to Cleveland.

Kubel? Now? Why?

Don't do it.

Knowing the White Sox, we'll trade Viciedo, Kuhn and Reed for one month of Kubel (after we're already basically out of the race).

Then, after trading Quentin, not have any outfielders who deserve to be starting heading in 2012.

Do they really think any White Sox fans are going to turn out to see Jason Kubel play? If anything, it would be a totally uncomfortable situation for Jason...knowing he wouldn't be sticking around after September, playing for a rival and having about a 2% chance to make the playoffs.

If Kenny were going to trade Dayan, it would have been last year for Dunn.

If Ozzie won't pinch hit for Dunn against a lefty in late innings with runners in scoring position because (according to him) he has full confidence in Dunn and because (according to Rongey) Dunn is under contract for several more years, what in God's name would happen if we effectively replaced him with another one-dimensional Lefty power DH? Cue the Ghostbusters' "dogs and cats living together" soundbite.

Should we do it? Of course. Thome "should" have been DHing here the last two years. Will we? No way in hell.

I say put Dunn and Thome at the 3 and 4 holes in the batting lineup and tell them to start swinging recklessly. Couldn't hurt either. Might wake Dunn up.

GMAFB caulfield.

You know just as well as I do that KW loves Viciedo and won't part with him easily, yet you always say we're gonna trade him for anything.

I think Dunn swings recklessly enough. He has what, 160 Ks?

If he swung hard at every single pitch then he would never walk, which is the only way he ever gets on base.

Can you imagine if he didn't at least have a decent eye at the plate? His strikeout totals would be earthquake enducing.
