Why would he give up money if he's released? The contract is guaranteed.

Thought if you were DFA'd and didn't accept assignment and were released, contract was void and you were FA? Didn't Jeff Weaver do that and go to the Cards in 06 among other guys in the past?

No, you get paid. Your next team pays you the pro-rated minimum, and that amount is subtracted from what your old team owes. When guys get released in the NBA it worked differently. Their old team paid them what they owed them and they also collected money from a new team if they were picked up. That's why some guys agree to buyouts.

I love Nelson Cruz.

Couldn't have hit that blast off a nicer guy :)

It would be perfect for Texas to come out and take the series vs. Verlander. The chances of him getting rocked aren't great, though he hasn't been as dominant in October, seeing him give up 4-5 runs in a loss would be phenomenal...

Cabrera looked slower than Paul Konerko

If Cabrera wasn't trying to eat himself out of the game he might have had a chance. But Napoli literally had enough time to take a nap waiting for fatty to get home...

Buster_ESPN Buster Olney

Jim Leyland just announced that Valverde and Benoit will not pitch today.

Leyland hopes to get through today with Verlander and Coke.

You give Verlander enough of it, and he'll pitch every single game the rest of the postseason.

All kidding aside, why does Leyland freaking announce this s***? Why even give the Rangers the comfort of knowing who is and is not available?

He also admitted that Avila is hurting that he probably did it by playing him too much this season.

Could you imagine the reaction if Ron Washington said the Rangers were going to try and get through their game with Wilson and Coke?

As much as I'm rooting against Tigers, I'm rooting for them to play a lot of postseason games because of the effect it could have on them to start next year.
