Don't count out Gatlin. He was awesome in Eugene. The USA has a chance to get 30+ medals with a talented Track team.

I was close. USA had 29 track and field medals most in a long time. If Meb has a better kick or Hall doesn't drop out of the marathon, they would have hit 30. The women were better than the men as well.

They're also having huge issues with the World Cup IIRC

They had to devote a lot of resources to be ready for the WC, which has put them terribly behind in getting ready for the Olympics.

I don't know what the cutoff date is for how late you could pull the Olympics from Brazil and give them to another country (the US) and have it ready in time. Even with all the crap we have here, I don't know if there's one city/region that has everything needed to host an Olympics without building something. LA is probably the best bet.

Giving the Olympics to Brazil was risky to begin with, giving it to them 2 years after hosting a WC was just flat out stupid.

Other than all of the political back scratching and pay offs, I think the thought was that with the World Cup, they'd already have a lot of infrastructure in place. BUt, i tnow appears they've spent too much time on WC stuff and not enough time on the Olympics.

The World Cup is played in several cities across the country, while the Olympics are in one city/area. The only infrastructure that could overlap is a stadium, and maybe a few hotels and public transit lines.
