Do they have any exciting young RHSP there? IIRC they don't seem to have much positionally at least as far as what is put out there, but they always seem to have some pitching.

Maybe if you have to you can get a third team involved where we get a RHSP prospect from the Giants & a SS/CF/run producer from someone else. We need guys who are close though. We need lots back to move Peavy.

He has been traded injured before, it could happen again.

They honestly have nothing all that valuable in their minors.

Gustavo Cabrera was a big signing for them, but he is off to a terrible start in the DSL & doubt they would even think about trading him.

Kyle Crick I'm sure is untouchable.

Joe Panik....Meh

Heath Hembree is a big body type pitcher we seem to covet.

Martin Agosta is def a guy I would be interested in & he has some very impressive numbers this season.

Agosta can get his fastball up to 94 mph, and it has above-average run and sink. His secondary stuff, a breaking ball and changeup, both should be solid average pitches in the future, and Agosta has shown the ability to mix his pitches well and keep hitters guessing

I sure as hell hope we don'tt target pitching over hitting in the return. With a guy like Peavy, there should be at least one MLB part in the deal too.

Ya if we're trading a guy like Jake, the main piece back better be a young bat.

Giants are also looking for a RH hitting outfielder, so Rios could be a perfect fit there.

But packaging Rios and Peavy doesn't make so much sense, as what do the Giants have to give up?

Still, Brandon Belt would be a good "buy low" candidate in the Justin Smoak/Hosmer mode. You'd also have to make sure that Konerko wanted to finish the season on a contender before you made that deal.

Then the Giants are def not the right partner.

I still kind of like to try to abide by the rule that if you trade pitching you have to get pitching in return. A really nice RHSP prospect who is pretty close should be a target in a Peavy deal, but that alone isn't enough, so maybe you target a position player of similar value (maybe involving a 3rd team). If that isn't an option then maybe you look to their low minors, take back 3-4 guys depending on quality. There's always the risk you get a Jon Gilmore type, who maybe is a former 1st rounder that you like & was on your draft board, but in the end he can never hit enough to justify a promotion out of A ball.

In a Peavy deal IMO it's pretty freaking unlikely that you are going to get a player who will ever be is as good as Peavy is right now, and it's almost asinine/borderline nutty to expect a player back who when it is all said and done will have a career that will match up with the Jakemeister's, and so you either need MLB-ready guys or prospects that are really really close who have done just about everything they can do in the minors or else some combination of MLB-ready/near MLB-ready talent plus a ton of potential. There are lots of guys out there (John Shelby III is a perfect example of this) who seem to have the raw talent, the acumen, the lineage, the smarts, etc. who you just think will at least make it to the bigs, but yet they still flame out in AA or below.

The Mariners have so many busts in need of a change of scenery, and we have so many holes, that there just has to be a fit somewhere. Could they/would they use DeAza anywhere?

Starting pitching is an active priority for the Orioles, writes Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun. Hurlers that the club is reportedly looking at include Ricky Nolasco (Marlins), Edinson Volquez and Andrew Cashner (Padres), Matt Garza and Scott Feldman (Cubs), Jake Peavy (White Sox), Bud Norris (Astros), and recent Oriole Joe Saunders (currently with the Mariners). The trouble for the O's, according to Connolly, will be coming up with enough prospects that the team can stomach dealing.

Per MLBTR

Any chance we could change the title of this thread to "Peavy trade rumors" or something & just use this as a catch-all for Peavy rumors until something close occurs? Just because, with the extra wild card spot, like every team out there is going to produce a Peavy rumor at some point here.

Why would the Giants create another hole by trading Belt?

Why would you guys want a guy who doesn't hit for power at first base? Isn't this the same board that writes Ravelo off as a prospect because of his lack of power?

Yeah I agree. Rios and Peavy better net you a package that is worth making the deal. Peavy and Alex could both go in the offseason still. SF is not a good fit. They don't have many offensive prospects as most have elaborated. Also, didn't Peavy play for Bochy in San Diego?

If Konerko would approve or they'd accept Dunn, we could fill that hole for them.

They've got a lot of placeholder veterans in Bay, Ibanez, Morse and Franklin Gutierrez already.

Then again, I'm not sure how DeAza makes them better, either. Saunders is about the only one who plays regularly (in the outfield) who was at once considered a strong prospect and is youngish.

Zunino's up for them now, too.

They're currently looking to dump Brendan Ryan, as they just brought up a new SS from the minors. He would fit as an offensively-challenged but legit DEF shortstop for a season or two if he doesn't go to a contender as defensive replacement.

Of course, the problem is do Bay, Ibanez, Morse or Gutierrez (his defense would be good, but offensive issues again, just like Ryan) make our team MORE competitive for 2014 or are we just rearranging deck chairs on a sinking ship?

Saunders, Montero, Smoak and Ackley would be the youngsters to target, but Beckham's looking more and more likely to be one of the players who would definitely be back in 2014, so that rules out Ackley.

Not the Giants....but I could see the Cardinals ultimately needing bullpen help.

Crain for Matt Adams & Other (s)?

Adams def intrigues me. Looks like he could be a future 1B/DH for years to come.

& yes he just hit 2 homers against the As

Plus didn't the Cards just announce they were going to a 4 man rotation?

They could use a starter & they have some really interesting prospects ;)

The Cardinals are currently in a very good, but tough situation. They have Carpenter at 2B, with Descalso backing up both middle infielders, and top prospect Kolton Wong playing very well in AAA. All three of these players could start at 2B on a good amount of major league teams right. Carpenter can play multiple positions, but all the positions he can play besides 2B are taken up by established players or are being looked to be filled by their highly touted prospects. Descalso can play SS, but they seem to like Kozma better, probably because he is the better defender (can't say for sure though as I have not seen too much of the cardinals this year).

Also, they have a log jam at 1B with Craig and Adams, although I see them holding on to Adams, letting Beltran leave after this year and moving Craig to RF, putting Tavares in CF, and either trading or making Jay their fourth OF. I usually am not a big fan of big, slow, 1B/DH types like Adams, but he looks like a very advanced hitter who has a tool many of the big, slow, but powerful hitters lack, and that is the hit tool and he looks like he can be a .300 hitter with 30+ jacks a year, almost a left handed version of Billy Butler.

If the White Sox can pry away one of Adams or Wong, that would be fantastic and both are the type of players the Sox need for the future. However, even acquiring someone like Descalso is a lesser deal would be pretty good to.

In the two years since Kolten Wong was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals he has been viewed as the team’s future at second base. Many have believed that he will be the escape from the second base mediocrity that has plagued the team in recent years.

But, Matt Carpenter has the potential to give Wong a run for his money.

If Carpenter works out well, the Cardinals could hang on to Wong the way they have Adams so far as an insurance policy. However, Wong is more than an insurance policy, he’s a quality middle infielder and those are a hot commodity.

It’s possible that, in the end, Wong’s biggest production for the Cardinals could be his trade value. With Carpenter at second base, assuming he works out, production at shortstop will become top priority.

If it reached a point where the Cardinals were comfortable moving Wong, it would give them the ability to use him as a trade chip. Trading Wong would give the Cardinals the ability to bring in a shortstop while making it easier for them to hang on to more of their young pitchers.

I'll say, he's in the Top 20-25 for MLB OPS right now.

Speaking of OPS, didn't realize Adam Lind was #10. I know Fathom has brought up his name a few times for 1B/DH next year, let's hope he doesn't keep this up or he'll price himself our of our spending range...although we would still have Morales on the radar screen as well.

Except Wong plays the same position as Beckham, and there's a 90-95% chance Gordon is back next year at 2B.

Beck possibly sliding to the SS position?

I would like to see him move over there for a bit & see how he performs if Lexi is moved.
