He threw 85 innings last year, and while that is fewer than the 127.1 he threw in 2011 (by a lot), it's just smarter to limit him if you can. Get him, say, 3 or maybe 4 more starts the rest of the way and he should end up around 150-155 on the year, which is a perfect stepping stone into next year. In the meantime, you let him know that he can spend time with family and friends this weekend and not to worry about starting a game, just to be at the stadium at 11 or 1 or whenever. A slider low and away is just fine too, because then you come back with a fastball on the 4th pitch up, and he's not going to catch it and it's going to look like a hanging slider anyways, until it doesn't slide.
