Nothing.. Bought my girlfriend a box of chocolates last year and pulled it out of our cabinet today and she had a total of 5 pieces out of about 20.. Not buying her s***!

You could try getting her something that she likes. You at least better give her a card.

Nothing.

Pick another day, where restaurants won't be packed, prices for everything from chocolate to flowers won't be inflated for no actual reason, and on that just as arbitrary day you pick, buy your loving companion 3-5X as many flowers, chocolates, or steaks/lobsters as you would have on Valentines day, and celebrate for the same reason.

Valentines day is only good for celebrating a massacre set into motion by Al Capone.

Do an activity over a gift. Dinner/movie, a show, etc. Time together is better than a gift.

A mix CD works.

35 years ago my ex-wife and I had our first date on Valentines Day. I took her out to dinner. Less than a month later we were living together. Exactly 4 months later we got married.

I proposed to my ex on April Fools Day, so that holiday is ruined for me.

Brings whole new meaning to the term "April Fools".
