It's either that or a doubleheader right after the All-Star Break. Both teams have off days June 1st too, so it's not a bad time to do it on the 28th. Or they could play it September 28, but the Sox would be finishing the season with 24 straight games and would have to approve it. I generally think doubleheaders suck for everyone involved, but you're probably right about July 18. An extra game on a Saturday in July probably helps attendance too.
