Either Rodon has a dead arm, or there's a big red flag tonight with his fastball velocity disappearing.

Last start, he was 92-98 MPH.

Tonight, he's 89-91, and those aren't sliders.

Okay, now he's up to 93. Just not getting out of the gate with his good stuff...well, we know our first inning history this year.

I think part of the problem is the Rangers are being more patient than the Astros. 19 pitches, 10 strikes to open.

Right now if you lay off Rodon's early stuff he has to throw strikes to set up the slider to put you away and he's inconsistent doing that.

Okay....just bad positioning and the typical Avi route to the ball apparently....nothing new there.

46-14 now in the 1st.

Two sliders, two wipeouts. This should be interesting with Gallo.

His route was straight back.

Watched the replay, nothing terrible by Avi. More positioning than anything else.

That was incredibly nasty by Rodon the last 3 batters.

When the ball was hit I thought it was a lazy fly ball. It just kept going.

His slider velocity's only 85 too (usually it's upper 80's)...fastball and slider just not as crisp as usual.

Got a K, though.

Lololololol. Just not that crisp. Lolololol.

Rodon pitches out of his own jam.

On the other hand, if Avi was positioned correctly (DeShields has been on a tear offensively, but not respecting his bat at all) and Carlos Sanchez took a different angle to that grounder (misreading the speed of the infield)....then there wouldn't have been any jam at all.

Then you've got a veteran umpire in Dana DeMuth squeezing him.

All I can go by is what the Rangers' radio announcers are saying.

Using logic now, it's obvious that the gun down there is off by 2-3 MPH.

Because if the velocities were correct, it would be a red flag...like the start where Sale was maxing out at 87-90 MPH in Arlington.

and how did that red flag go with Sale? IIRC it amounted to jack s***.

Well, if you'd like to come here to "second tier city" China and improve the internet infrastructure so I could get MLB.TV to work without freezing every 30 seconds, that would be greatly appreciated.

The ferry that sank with 458 on board earlier this week happened just 95 miles away. Somehow, cyclones/tornadoes/rainstorms don't exactly improve the bandwidth.

I think it's almost time to start Gordon at 2B more instead of Sanchez.

+1

If you can't replace Alexei and his abysmal offense, you can't keep playing Sanchez as well. Just makes the lineup too weak. The gap between Beckham's offense to Sanchez's offense is significantly greater than Sanchez's defense to Beckham's defense.

I'm blacked out in Seattle... I don't know wtf is going on. I was watching and then I got blacked out. Fun times.

I still can't believe Houston didn't pick Rodon

Or the Marlins.

Tyler Kolek hasn't been all that amazing so far. Wouldn't surprise me if he never makes it to the majors. That's how it goes with high school pitching prospects that have huge velocity increases...
