What is the evidence to suggest this? It's not like he only pitched well at the trade deadline last year, and this year his peripherals have been pretty solid the whole season. He's 26th in WAR among starting pitchers in the MLB this season, hardly what I'd call anything close to "awful".

He was way better with the Cubs than the A's, and has improved quite a bit (albeit with some shakeups) since a pretty lackluster April/May. I doubt it's intentional, and it could just be random, but it's been a frustrating ride.

Samardzija with the Cubs last year: 2.83 ERA, 3.09 FIP

Samardzija with the A's last year: 3.14 ERA, 3.30 FIP

I wouldn't call that way better, especially when you factor in the jump from the NL to AL, where pitchers generally always see their ERAs increase.

Best rotations over the past 30 days (park-adjusted FIP)

1. Nationals (73)

2. Cubs (78)

3. White Sox (80)

4. Dodgers (81)

5. Pirates (84) https://twitter.com/BtBScore/status/619192870965260288

I liked Jonah Keri's article yesterday that talked about picking Chris Sale as Cy Young because he was doing what he was in front of the worst defense in the AL. Puts the above in perspective.

The way Samardzija has pitched today I am sure the Jays are ready to give up their top three prospects for Samardzija.

They may want to trade before they leave today, the Blue Jays sure would.

Just get the Blue Jays GM really drunk after the game, that ought to do it.

AA claims he wants to stay out of the rental aisle.

What I don't understand is if they are high on him and want him, maybe picking him up before he pitches against them makes sense. If they lose today, that's a game they could have been facing someone from AAA.
