Jeff Samardzija, 1-8 with a 9.24 ERA over his last nine starts, toes the rubber for White Sox in Game 1 of split doubleheader in Detroit.

#WhiteSox for 9/21: Eaton 8, Ramirez 6, Abreu 3, Cabrera DH, Thompson 7, Garcia 9, Soto 2, Olt 5, Sanchez 4. Samardzija vs. Ryan.
Ideal start time for a compelling ballgame.
Just lose, baby!
two soft tossing lefties on day!?!
Game 1 prediction - this Ryan guy - 6IP, 4H, 2ER, 8K
Game 2 prediction - Randy Wolf 7IP, 5H, 1ER, 7K.
How many homers does the Shark give up? I know we have lefties going for the Tigers but do you think we ever see Laroche again this season or beyond?
This is a big series for draft position, I hope the post-ASB Samardzija shows up.
Holy s*** Randy wolf is still in baseball? I would have guessed he's been gone for at least 5 years.
Get ready for a Tom Milone/Bruce Chen-type outing.
As bad as this year has been the regression of Avi has been the worst thing to me. He will never be what the brass thought was a 30/30 guy. 15/15 on a good year tops.
I'm not saying Trayce Thompson will end up better in the long run...but for 2016, I'd rather see him get 550 at-bats than Avisail Garcia. Just not a fan.
Wow. I just tuned in to see that Samardzija has managed to record FIVE outs without giving up a run. Nice!
I hate Avi's swing so much. How many times can he ground weakly to 3rd base while his knee collapses at the plate?
This should be reversed.
Depends on the mood in NYC
Watch Samardzija win his last three starts and cost the Sox a top 10 pick. There would be some irony in that.
That would fit how the whole season has gone.
Samardjiza pitching well accomplishes one big thing, it makes it a better option for the White Sox to offer him a QO, and it lessens the odds that he will take it and be signed somewhere else as a FA. The top 10 pick thing only matters if we want to sign a top flight free agent, and I don't even see that as realistic anyway.
No matter how he pitches the last three starts, the Sox are offering it, and Samardzija is declining it.
As far as the protected pick, I'm not that into getting it or not getting it. I just want a higher pick for more options for the Sox.
8th at best, 15th at worst. I'd rather have 8th.
How many runs has Samardzija allowed? Six...teen?
The Tigers have one base runner through 5 2/3.
Hawk and Stone giving long case for why they think team will offer him Qualifying offer and why he'll still get a lot of money from someone.
He might still be with the Sox next year so let's hope if that happens he gets things figured out
Fine time for Shamajaananjala to throw a one-hitter. Definitely couldn't have used this at any point earlier in the season.
