QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2016 -> 10:06 AM)
I think you mean the 2014-2015 offseason in terms of targeting Bradley, Jr.

It was clear this year that they needed his defense and Betts' in the outfield, and that Hanley Ramirez and probably Rusney Castillo would be the odd men out (Ramirez was moved to 1B.)

So they would have offered Castillo/catcher/Owens instead...or we would have gone after the same targets that were traded for Craig Kimbrel (or maybe not, since they were too far off in their development to impact the White Sox until 2017 at the earliest, but probably 2018).

No last offseason. Bradley had a sub-par year last year again w the bat. Now he has exploded offensively. They had Young, Castillo, Betts, Holt and Bradley Jr as outfielders and already decided to move Ramirez once they signed Young. But they were desperate for starting pitching . They went out and paid a bundle for Price but they still were short and now are really scrambling for starting pitching.

I wouldn't have done the Castillo package for Q and I didn't think the Red Sox would do a Betts package. Oh well. With Rodon struggling it may have best for White Sox in long run.

He had an 832 OPS last year and is an excellent defender. In 2014, he was at 531 and his prospects were slightly dimmed...looked like the classic all field, no hit type.

It was pretty obvious that Castillo and Hanley were the ones that were going to be out of luck in terms of maintaining their outfield positions. Red Sox also seemed to be satisfied with Holt. Castillo just wasn't hitting for enough power, isn't a very good defender and doesn't light up the board with lots of steals, either.

Agree but that was solely based on his production in August. He hit .354 in August but then tailed off to .216 in Sept/Oct. based on his tailing off I was hoping the Red Sox would be willing to part w him since Betts had a great year. Oh well, too late now

Are you really regretting not trading Quintana though? Our rotation would be a complete mess without him.

No. I thought Rodon would make Q expendable especially if we were getting a young top notch catcher and CF and a 4-5 SP back. I also felt the Sox needed another SP because of the projected Johnson/Danks 4/5 combo. So in hindsight we would have improved drastically at catcher and CF but Q would have been a huge void w Rodon struggling.

2016 AL ERA Leaders (starters):

1. Jose Quintana (1.54)

2. Chris Sale (1.67)

Badass. Now it's time to keep that ball rolling, get Rodon into bulldog mode, refocus the bullpen, and do some deadline patchwork.

The top one is everything. If no one is willing to sell yet, there is no one to buy from. This is where you really hope the LaRoche money comes in handy so we can take on salary if needed.

The Rockies should know that they have no chance at contending this year, despite their decent start, so it would probably be wise of them to deal Gonzalez while he still has value.

I see him going more towards the deadline. Not May.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 17, 2016 -> 05:29 PM)
I don't think he's actually referring to anyone. He's just saying that he's ready to make a deal at anytime.

Most likely. But I was just naming someone in my post who I think they'd be more likely to target. Someone without a long commitment and not taking one of Fulmer or Anderson. The Soxtalk favorite offer of: Johnson/Beck, Sanchez, (insert other low tier prospect here) probably doesn't land you anything to great.
