QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 07:06 AM)
It's essentially telling people that that the government should take care of them completely and they have no accountability of their own. "You're perfect and your life still sucks! The government should do more!"

Literally could not be more inaccurate.

oh my god, one of hastert's victims was the brother of his political ally and illinois house R Tom Cross. He actually reached out to cross for letter of support for Hastert. Ugh, I'm gonna be sick.

This Hastart sentencing testimony is so sad. Important to remember it isn't just the initial assault on these victims, but how it can scar and destroy their lives (and families).

Such a devastating situation. He should go away forever.

Yes he needs to go away. These cases sicken me. Meghan McCain said it best tonight ... he's disgusting.

I'm having a very very very hard time with people who quite obviously haven't cared or been paying attention showing up these past few months who think they know everything and want to lecture everyone else about how things work... since they will disappear again before 2018 like they always do

I don't care how little attention people pay as long as they realize what the stakes are in 6 months. I'll listen to every lecture they want to give.

Holy bleep ... Bernie won Indiana!

It's pretty obvious except for this super delegate crap, Bernie would be taking the country by storm. Everybody loves him. His speeches are by far the most attended. They are happenings! Young people worship him. Lines are long, long, long. But this super delagate thing, combined with the media's never giving him a fair shake lead to .... you know who, Hillary (same song, 90th verse, no reason to elect her cept it's her turn; what a nation we have).

I love turning on virtually any political show and any discussion of Bernie will quickly erode to somebody like Heraldo saying/screaming, "Bernie doesn't have a chance!" And then they pretty much move on to Trump or somebody rather than discuss the Bernie phenomenon. Just the fact the millenials worship him you'd think would guarantee fair coverage, but nooooo ... guys like Chris Matthews, lol, gotta have Ms. Clinton in the oval office. Bernie with another victory tonight and it means ... NOTHING.

You do know that Bernie is losing in the popular vote as well, right? Not just super delegates.

Bernie's candidacy has been much more impressive and much closer than the pundits lead people to believe. They are scoffing at his candidacy when it's MUCH CLOSER than that. You have to admit it's actually a close race and he's had a ton of impressive victories, especially for somebody who came from nowhere. ... One problem for Bernie is the good ol boy and girl network simply would not give him a fair shake. Like I said, the Heraldo-like dismissing of any Bernie discussion with "HE HAS NO CHANCE!" was quite unfair to all the people who have PACKED HIS RALLIES. Yes he technically is losing. But none of the good ol boy network/lapdog Hillary media members will acknowledge this. Do you agree with me or not that Bernie has actually been a formidable foe and has been given the short end of the stick nationally?

His victories mean nothing to the media members eager to get on with the coronation.

Yeah, he has been given the short end from national television media.

However, legacy media isn't the only hat in the ring. He gets more than enough love from new media and social media.

But he's still losing. He's impressive, but he's still losing and barring an unexpected upset in California, where he currently lags behind Hillary by 10 points, he's dead in the water.

The Democratic primary (and for that matter the Republicans too) hasn't had any suspense for weeks if you

A) know what to look for (pledged delegate leads and how delegates are counted)

B) are not in denial

Thank you. At least you commented on my observations nicely.

We know it's had no suspense. That's what I've been lamenting. There SHOULD be some suspense. The super delegate thing is sad. But even sadder is Bernie getting no credit. He had momentum at some points, but the media would not allow him to ride that momentum at all with guys like Geraldo merely screaming, "HE HAS NO CHANCE. LET'S MOVE ON AND TALK ABOUT TRUMP and CRUZ for goshsakes!"

update: I'm watching tonight's replay commentary. One pundit wouldn't even say Bernie's name, saying he and him. The first analyst was asked about tonight's result in Indiana and she said, "Hillary Clinton is storming toward the nomination. Nothing is changed." LOL. Sickening. The pundits basically say "he's a socialist nut, nothing to see here." Meanwhile win after win after win with more on the way? West Virginia? Nebraska?

Had to turn off msnbc coverage .... again. Pundits laughing at Bernie and Trump, proclaiming Hillary the winner. Mentioning Trump offending all voter groups, can't win over Hillary, blah blah, refusing to ever mention Hillary's flaws. And this is on a night Hillary lost another primary. Still nothing but love.

ANYBODY HAVE A CHANNEL to recommend to greg to watch? A channel that does not worship Hillary?? Is there one?

None of this matters. Hillary didn't even spend a dime campaigning in Indiana because the outcome of that state doesn't matter to her, as Bernie picked up one, maybe two delegates. She's got a massive lead in pledged delegates that's way too much to overcome (by this point in 2008, Obama was leading by about 100 and Hillary was chipping away, but it was too much and she couldn't do it). Right now Hillary has a lead of about 300 pledged delegates. Notice I haven't mentioned superdelegates. Before saying "oh, this is so unfair," consider that if the Democrats awarded delegates the way the Republicans do, Hillary would be leading by something like a thousand. This is a ridiculous, Byzantine system, but it's the same system that produced Obama over Clinton because he was better at it.

Bernie made it farther than a lot of people thought he would, but he doesn't get a participation trophy. He is losing, fair and square, and the main reason has been his campaign strategy. He won a bunch of states that had an insignificant number of delegates and they spent a whole week crying about Wyoming, which has 14 delegates, before getting crushed on the east coast. For the past month, his campaign has loudly cried about anything that's not specifically strategically advantageous for him as being "rigged." At some point there needs to be a reckoning with reality.

Right, the rest of the states for the Democrats are proportional whereas a lot of the Republican states have been winner-take-all or at least winner-take-most. So even if Bernie keeps winning each state, he's not going to win enough to make up the delegate gap, superdelegates or not.

edit: I've basically been ignoring the dem primary since I voted because: 1) I accepted that Hillary was almost assuredly going to be the nominee 2) I remain baffled by anyone who is enthusiastic about her candidacy 3) both the Hillary and Sanders hardcore supporters camps have been insufferable for months.

If he falls short of the nomination (he will) but manages to build a stronger left-liberal coalition within the Democratic Party, it's still a win for his ideology.

Only if that group continues to utlize the democratic party to build within, rather than just move on to caring about something else and claim it's "corruption" that was the reason they failed not that it's hard work to change a country of 330 million people

Indiana put an end to Ted Cruz and kept Bernie alive. We are expecting thank you gifts from liberals.

If you ignore the fact that Bernie now needs to win a HIGHER percentage in the remaining contests now than he did before Indiana, then yeah sure I guess it kept him alive.

Reality though, tells a different story, and that story is that he didn't win by ENOUGH to actually keep him alive. After Indiana, he now needs to win about 65% of remaining delegates.

This is more impossible than it was before Indiana.

Indiana was a net win for Hillary.

In reality.
