The Bulls biggest problem: John Paxson and Gar Forman

Recommended Posts

John Paxson and Gar Forman have been running this team for over 13 seasons now. They have not gotten it done. They should be fired. I simply cannot recall this type of blind support and protection (from the Chicago media) when it came to Jerry Angelo, Phil Emery, Jim Hendry, or any other executive in Chicago sports. (At least Kenny won a World Series) The fact is--Continuously, GarPax has failed to provide talented, championship caliber rosters.

They lost their young max deal league mvp to devastating injuries year after year after year, all at a time when the best player in the world teamed up with other allstars/superstars. You cant expect them to be annual title contenders when that happens. They did an excellent job finding replacements for Rose and they've drafted really well. The way they handled Thibs departure is my only complaint with them. Not landing major FA's isn't really fair game when they can't offer more money than other teams and they have to deal with Chicago weather.

Blind support and protection? In what world?

There is very little pressure from the local media on Garpax. Jerry Angelo and Jim Hendry were roasted by the sun times, tribune, 670 and 1000. Anything you read written by Sam Smith, KC Johnson, Nick Friedell... Anything you hear from Dan Bernstein...They all say "pax tries his best". And there is this false narrative that they drafted well. What about Snell, Teague over draymond, Mirotic, McDermott, and trading away Lamarcus aldridge? What about firing Ron Adams? What about assaulting Vinny Del Negro? What about not wanting to trade for Kobe Bryant because they though Luol Deng was too valuable?

You made the thread. Since Rose has been dealing with injuries, what would you have liked to have seen them do?

Almost every trade proposal we've heard for the last 3 years would have used Jimmy Butler to get a big name. I'd just like to note that.

Easy. Don't trade Aldridge for a piece of sh** player. And they could have traded for Kobe Bryant, but didn't want to part with Luol Deng. The Bulls FO is clueless. They fall in love with their own players. I suggest reading this article. http://www.latimes.com/sports/lakers/laker...0223-story.html

Would the Bulls be better right now if they'd traded Butler as the key piece for someone like Kevin Love?

At least the Bulls consistently make the playoffs.

They're almost like the Atlanta Braves of the NBA Eastern Conference...and Rose's injuries are analagous to the White Sox losing Chris Sale and his effectiveness upon return declining. You can't expect to beat the 2nd best player in NBA history, superteams (Heat w/ James), the Warriors or Spurs without an MVP level Rose.

Another way of putting it...being a Bulls' fan now is like being a Cavs fan when the Celtics, then Pistons, then Bulls were so good, although in general the Eastern is a LOT softer than back in those days.

If your biggest FA signings have been Ben Wallace and Carlos Boozer, you suck at your job.

Not a good analogy. The Spurs, Warriors and Heat have won the past three years. There are multiple teams that could potentially win this year. When the Bulls had their run, they had virtually no threat at all.

When they had MVP Rose in 2011. They sat on their hands at the deadline like they always do. They could have gotten a SG. Instead they were content with Bogans and Brewer. A total disaster.

Depends how good you are at drafting and development.

And, with the salary cap, GM's are often handcuffed financially. If your gold standard is San Antonio, sure. Depends on one's expectations.

it's a good analogy. Who is the threat to Cleveland in the EAST?

CLE has LeBron, but they sucked before they made a TRADE last year for Mozgof, and also for JR Smith. They made something called a TRADE. Look at Paxson's trade history. It's a total joke.

Teams make trades and get creative when their capped out. Bulls fans are brainwashed to think you can't do anything. Golden State was capped out when they made a CREATIVE TRADE and did a sign and trade for eventual finals MVP Andre Iguodala. What's your response to that?

K.

Acquired Luol Deng via trade for cash.

But mainly, the Eddy Curry trade may be the biggest heist ever.

BNyUPa6CQAEO4wo.png

Eddy Curry led to Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson, Omer Asik, Thabo Sefolosha and Doug McDermott.

They dumped Nocioni and Gooden for Brad Miller and John Salmons, who helped lead the team to the greatest playoff series ever.

Niko was acquired for basically James Johnson.

Deng for cash and picks, which allowed them to avoid the repeater tax and sign Gasol.

The only bad trade was Korver for for cash. Aldridge was a gamble but guess what - they traded into that spot and if they had Aldridge, they never get Derrick Rose.

If Rose wasn't made of glass, history would look a lot different.

Also, you still haven't totally answered the question. All those moves you are upset about is when Rose was healthy, which was 4+ years ago.

You bring them up now, in 2016, that they get a "free pass"

Since Rose has been in and mostly out of the lineup, what do you suggest the Bulls do to become a much better team?

Trade Rose and Snell for DeMarcus Cousins. Duh.

"Should we have traded Jimmy Butler or are we better off having stood pat for 3 years with him?"

"Ben Wallace and Carlos Boozer!!!"

So you answer is we should have traded Jimmy Butler for Carlos Boozer? Because otherwise that's pretty obviously refusing to answer the question because it's a pretty amazing case of where being conservative has given the Bulls one of the best players in the league.

You just invalidated everything you posted in this thread by pretending the Bulls didn't sign Pau Gasol.

Pau Gasol was a big FA signing? Maybe for the pathetic Bulls... Gasol is 35 years old. How does Gasol help this team get to a championship? If an executive can't lure difference making players to a team, then that executive sucks. Also, aside from Jimmy Butler, who has GarPax drafted that impresses you so much? And don't say Taj Gibson. Gibson is replacement level talent. I bet you are a big McDermott fan, and you think Snell is good, and you think that Portis is the next KG. This is the problem with the Bulls. Bulls fans buy into the GarPax BS. I bet you didn't want them to trade Luol Deng for Kobe Bryant. I bet you didn't want the Bulls to trade Asik a couple years back as well.
