Only 4 GB of the wild card

The Sox should try to improve for this year and the future both. s***, the crappy Royals think they are going to win a wild card. Why? Their bullpen and defense. If the Sox could trade Beckham and Dunn for some bullpen pieces maybe the team can catch lightning and have a great final eight weeks. I am of course highly skeptical we can get anything for those two, but maybe Hahn can pull a magic act. Might as well ride it out with Viciedo and Flowers the rest of the season.

It's amazing how Abreu single handedly has improved the team this much. He and Sale actually could be co-MVPs of the AL. Can you imagine how bad this team would be without them? They single handedly have spearheaded a team that is sort of close to .500 rather than a 100 loss team. That's the definition of "most valuable" player.

I wanted Sale to win, but I wouldn't cry if Scott Carroll got shelled today and the offence had a good effort that fell just short. I don't want Hahn to even hesitate thinking about the fan reaction when faced with decent offers for Danks et al, and being at or near .500 might give him pause for thought.

If the White Sox had an offer they would consider appropriate for Danks, they would trade him. Hahn doesn't make moves based on fan reaction. To think otherwise is really saying he probably has no clue about his job. He is far more in tune with his team than you or me.

Given where we're at, I think Beckham is the only guy we must move. He's simply not very good and we can actually start developing a player for next year without missing a beat. Trade him now for whatever you can (even if you have to eat his entire salary) and call it a win.

From there, listen to offers for pretty much anyone not named Sale, Quintana, Abreu, Avi, Conor, or Eaton. However, I think Alexei & Danks are the two we should be pushing hard. If we can get a quality return for either of them, then take the deal and trade minimal players like Dunn & De Aza for whatever you can. If no one is willing to pony up for Danks or Alexei, then I'm not completely against just running with what we have the rest of the way. Sure, it's a long-shot that we'll actually win a wild card spot, but there is some goodwill that could be earned with both fans and players by not doing a fire sale.

Probably, but if it was a tight call with a trade, and the team was 54-54, I could see it being a factor. Enough people still whine about the White Flag trade.

Yea and if they moved Alexei, "we traded an all -star when only 3 games out of the playoffs." Hahn may not care, but those who must approve his trades will.

Unless you know what exactly is offered for Alexei, you cannot specifically say he needs go be traded.

And I don't see the urgency trading Alexei. Who is going to play short next year, or should we be happy when they lose then also?

Agreed, it seems people just want good players traded cause they get bored or something?
