1B/DH Dan Black was placed on the Temporary Inactive List. Charlotte's active roster is now set at 25 players.

excuse my ignorance...i was checking box scores and the Bear was missing...i am not familiar with this designation?

I would appreciate the baseball lesson or explanation...he had a nice run going

thank you

Temporary Inactive List means he's not hurt, the team still has control over him, but he's left the team for some "other" reason on a short term basis. I've seen this for a number of things - it can include bereavement or family/personal issues, disciplinary issues, or any number of other things. If it is a long-term thing, he'd be on the Restricted List.

But in this case, I have a theory. I've seen some "smoke" around the idea that maybe he's exploring playing in Asia, perhaps Korea. Not confirmed, but certainly would make sense. I actually suggested this as a possible path for him some weeks ago, but now I've seen some evidence that may be what's going on.

Again this is not confirmed - just a theory based on some evidence. We'll see.

Thank you...I appreciate your informed comments a couple weeks ago and this an insightful theory...I, too, will be curious :)

Pretty big loss to come out of nowhere.

The fact that the White Sox granted the release for him to go in the middle of the season pretty well tells you they don't see a clear scenario where he helps the team.

As I said some weeks ago, this was the perfect scenario for him. He had nowhere to go, he's just reaching what would be his peak years as a pro, and he's proven he can hit at this level quite effectively. He's got a big personality, and the patience at the plate to handle junk-ballers. This way he gets to go make some money playing, and maybe he even gets a shot at sliding back over to the states in a year or two or three and help someone if he tears up KBO.

Yes, outside of having the Sox call him up, this is the next best case scenario from him. If nothing else, his paycheck probably just jumped by a factor of 10 or so.

Plus if he does well over there, which he really should, he could make more money in endorsements and potentially a longer contract. But yeah, 300k for a season is probably more than 10 times what he makes right now. And I'm pretty sure they give him housing over there too, so he could save a lot of that.

So anybody have the links to follow box scores over there...Aguilas had good press if u used Google translator and mlb.com tracked. Looks like college teammate Josh lindblom over there pitching for another team...maybe he can score some American servicemen some tickets...he is a good guy ... best of luck

#WhiteSox confirm that Dan Black has been released from his contract to pursue opportunities in Asia.

Black was arguably the best hitter in Sox minor league system. Not the best prospect, but the guy could hit. So, he leaves mid-season and goes to Korea. Korea?? And the Sox (Hahn) said what? Sayonaro? Is there any story here worth reporting?

Black was a guy who way particularly old for every level, wasn't likely to contribute anything more than Wilkins did for us last year, probably was told he similarly wouldn't have much of a chance with any of the other big league teams, but could earn a decent wage overseas. This happens with guys who hang around the minors for a while.

IMHO Black more of a team guy than wilkins...he made other guys better, if he was on your team u had a chance to win, he would put the team on his back several times a season but was also a player, just one of the guys, who would say "pick me up" let's get the win...blue collar

Will be interesting to see how much of a factor he was in "winnning" at charlotte...maybe to small of a small sample?

Looks like kt wiz new team at the bottom...I have found scoreboards but no box scores yet...!?@$!?

Interesting http://www.hardballtimes.com/keep-an-eye-on-korean-baseball

/

He made a mark and became an effective team guy for the Aguilas...how fun to be a one-two punch with Manny Rameriz, I don't care who u r...

Again I can find scoreboard and stats...Purdue alum Josh lindblom doing well..but I can't find box scores....Dominican linked and formatted through mlb.com and. Milb.com

Interesting journey through the game, respect the game.

i assume this is a service either the players or the teams pay for to market, transition or recruit players...as a retired journalist, i find this process interesting...again great heads up and thx

i installed the google translate app to my firefox, easier to follow on real computer than phone

this one more like a Dan Black HR...i can't tell where it landed

team is starting to win..imho even though he is just a "blue collar" or "organizational filler" maybe it is his personality? But he seems to pick a team up, the other players seem to play better when he joins a team...to me, coming through youth and developmental leagues, all sports, there are players that compete against their own teammates to get to the next level...and there are players that u just want to play on their team, you know u have a chance to win...I believe he did that at Bristol and for the Barons? injured and short sample seasons for the Knights?

lot of short game in this league, bouncers and slaps...wheels

congratulations, u seem to have hit it right on the head...let the marketing start...although i would have edited the whiff out of there, but they have a small video sample to work with...

any one speak korean, what does it say in that conversation bubble

i suppose i should shut this thread down...if anyone wants to follow dan's progress, I have settled into the KT Wiz facebook page for daily video game summaries and the Global Sports Integration facebook page, that appears to be an agent or at least transition service, paid for by the players or team?

hmmm catching popped up here

This process has been very interesting to me as a fan following him from college through 2 drafts, extended, rookie to AAA, team USA, non-roster invitee, spring training fill in, the dominican and now this...definitely the trenches

never underestimate the love of the game or we wouldn't be posting here ; )

they haven't filed last night's game highlights yet...

Go Sox, still following the team and franchise : ) although I am a dbacks fan...my dblack dback thing didn't work out : ) little guy named Goldschmidt, he's alright!!!
