Unless Brian backs it up, I have zero faith in White Sox Dave. This is the same guy who bet his reputation that Cespedes and the White Sox had finalized a deal this winter, like four times.

And with Shields' age, contract, and declining performance, I wouldn't give up anything of value for him.

To be fair, Shields has been good this year on a really bad team, knows the AL, and I'm pretty sure he has an opt out after this year or next.

Oh yay, wasting financial resources on a team that is sinking fast and could be in 4th place by the end of next week.

But...but...we are still in first place.

Why would he do that?

He's not going to get MORE money on the open market...unless he just had a tremendous season this year and led the White Sox to the playoffs and went into next year's FA market, but what exactly are the odds of that happening?

Yea, I cannot possibly see a 35 year old pitcher forfeit $42M to take a chance on a weak FA market. He's be nuts to do that.

We would definitely benefit from another starter and his contract dictates you'd have to give up very little talent. Note that it's a backloaded (sort of deal), so $10M last year and $21M each year until it ends. I'm not sure if Shields is the guy, but I would imagine as Hahn looks at deals he's checking out guys that are making a lot of money that he could basically in exchange for eating the contract

Sources: Padres, White Sox discussing James Shields trade. Unclear if deal is imminent, but talks have "energy"

Alright, a more reliable source. I'd only be down for this trade if they pay a lot of his backloaded salary

Despite my general negative attitude on this potential acquisition, I will say that

Sale

Quintana

Shields

Rodon

Latos/Fulmer

looks a hell of a lot better than what we currently have.

Fulmer? Guy wont sniff majors this year. Latos/Miggy.
