Story SN: Do pitchers need safety headgear? Team doctor Timothy Kremchek called Chapman "a very lucky guy.'' Kremchek said a metal plate will be inserted in the bone and will remain there permanently. He says Chapman has a very mild concussion but no other brain injuries and no injuries to his eye. Reds manager Bryan Price says Chapman was "feeling better, awake and able to communicate." "I'm optimistic he'll be on the mend and, following the process as we get more familiar with the injury itself, hopefully see him here pretty soon," Price said, adding that he's not "focusing on situation with the bullpen right now." Kansas City's Salvador Perez lined Chapman's 99 mph fastball into the pitcher's face in Wednesday night's game. Chapman collapsed to the ground, moaning in pain and kicking his feet, then was taken off the field on a stretcher. GAH It's cool how they peel the skin from above to get access to the forehead to put the metal plates in. I've had a few soccer players who needed it and got to watch a couple of the surgeries.
