  1. It’s interesting you pick those 3 as examples because while they were international prospects none of them appeared at the top of these types of lists in their respective years. Soto and Tatis were near the bottom of their top 30 and Acuna was outside of it.
  2. Or, he could simply be on a flight to Chicago that isn’t for signing a contract. Which would mean it’s palusible to see him on a normal flight with normal people.
  3. Machado could be on the flight. I’m cheap and never fly anything but economy yet have been on flights with Joe Torre and Jim Thome in the past. Athletes don’t all cruise around in private jets.
  4. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 9, 2017 -> 10:41 AM) Hit and Run‏ @HitAndRun670 .@Mike_Ferrin predicts Jose Quintana ends up with the #Rockies. #WhiteSox Riley Pint would be a good addition to a team with Jake Burger and Seth Beer. Come to think of it, if the Rockies got Beer the opportunities would be endless. Pint and Beer playing at Coors!
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 02:18 PM) If Collins were hitting .300 with everything else being the same we'd be talking about a Top 20 prospect. I swear there is no pleasing this board or expectation of patience. I feel like this year is especially bad in this regard. Typically it's high hopes for low talent. Now that we have real talent everyone expects greatness out of every at bat, anything less and they are not a prospect anymore. Prospects are a roller coaster. If you can't handle the ups and downs without swinging wildly emotionally then get off.
  6. Isn't it refreshing to not see our first round pick default to #1 simply because the rest of the system is junk.
  7. I wouldn't mind seeing the Sox go with Jordon Adell in the first and JJ Matijevic in the second. If not Adell it would be great to see Bukauskas slip to the Sox.
  8. That BABIP really curbs your enthusiasm
  9. Wow, that Alex Hansen start is pretty depressing. Last guy you want to see with control issues.
  10. Pile on a little more cash for the Robert fund.
  11. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 09:01 PM) There is a thin line between potential stars and schmucks. 20151 MLB Draft First round 1. Arizona Diamondbacks: Dansby Swanson, SS, Vanderbilt 2. Houston Astros : Alex Bregman, SS, LSU 3. Colorado Rockies: Brendan Rodgers, SS, Lake Mary HS, FL. 4. Texas Rangers: Dillon Tate, RHP, UC Santa Barbara 5. Houston Astros: Kyle Tucker, OF, H.B. Plant HS, FL. 6. Minnesota Twins: Tyler Jay, LHP, Illinois 7. Boston Red Sox: Andrew Benentendi, OF, Arkansas _______________________________________________________________ 8. Chicago White Sox: Carson Fulmer, RHP, Vanderbilt Basically those who didn't take a pitcher did well.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 02:27 AM) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/evaluating-...s-shields-deal/ I will be the first to tell you how much I respect Law's opinion, but to suggest that he doesn't have any sort of agenda is BS. Explain his motivation here? If he changes his evaluations for an agenda he will be less accurate. Poor accuracy over time puts his job in jeopardy. Furthermore, no one he may have an axe to grind with in the white Sox organization pays attention to his list. They are reliant on their own scouts and lists. So wheres the payoff for Law? Just to aggravate Sox fans? Please. I think in reality he tends to swing pessimistic on prospects he's not in love with. We as fans want these prospects to be stars, so we swing optimistic. So we won't agree with him often. That doesn't mean he has an agenda. More likely he is far less biased than you are and making a fair assessment based on the things he believes are significant to projecting success supported by a history of feedback. Sorry it doesn't fit with your fantasy of future greatness.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 12:18 AM) For those that don't want Bell as the headliner, how would Bellinger have been good enough as a headliner with the Dodgers for Sale? FWIW, which is not much, I traded Q and Robertson for Meadows, Glasnow. Bell, and Hayes in OOTP. Meadows and Glasnow were busts. Bell and Hayes became studs, Bell moreso.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 01:03 PM) Honestly, I like Glasnow...but with what the White Sox have already done I'd be really iffy about taking back another front line starting pitcher. Even if Quintana is moved, like it or not there are only so many innings to go around with these guys. Rodon, Fulmer, Kopech, Lopez, and Giolito is a set of 5 guys who, by mid-2018 at the latest, are all going to be needing big league innings in the rotation to establish themselves and to either sink/swim. Add in the fact that we're already holding Shields and he needs innings also, and man we are close to not having enough innings for the guys we have. Yes that's a good problem to have because guys do fail, but you also still expect some guys to rise up from lower levels during that time period also. Basically, if you trade for Glasnow, I think it puts you in a position where you have to trade one of the other starters within a year, and I don't like being forced to trade young guys to create playing time. Being forced to trade one of those guys undermines the reason for trading them. Add in Glasnow and suddenly I start switching from "it's ok, we need pitching" to "stop acquiring pitchers!" I don't think you can ever get too many top pitching or shortstop prospects. Even in the off chance you end up with more than your team can field, which is probably unlikely, you still have the most valuable trade chip in baseball today. Flip your excess for another monster package. Watch your teams value grow even more.
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) MLB Network: "Quintana isn't an ace, he's a solid #2." I swear Quintana could be an All-Star for the next three years, win a Cy Young and 20 games and people would still go "Well, he's good but..." If you have Ace results people will always view you as a #2 if you don't have Ace type dominating "stuff".
