  1. Right, but they need to field a major league roster. They have a bunch of bad players, but don't really have that many no brainer DFA candidates. Its the downside to signing to many shitty veterans. No one is going to lose sleep over DFAing Lopez, or DeJong, or Grossman, or Pillar, etc., etc., but they also don't really have anyone in the upper minors to replace these guys either.
  2. Perez is no longer a catcher. Don't believe he has caught a single inning in AAA this year - playing 1B. They could just call up Robinson I suppose and then DFA him when Stassi is ready. I doubt they want to put Hackenburg on the 40 man yet because its already fairly crowded and he's at least mildly interesting. With all the vets on the 40 man, its makes the 40 man fairly inflexible.
  3. I really don't think its a motivation issue for AV. He might look like he doesn't care, but I think that is just him. He has to know that if he doesn't pick it up, he's a non tender candidate and looking at a cheap 1 year deal, or maybe even milb if he really keeps sucking. I am sure its eating him up inside. I really think a month or so in Charlotte makes a ton of sense for AV. From a roster construction standpoint, Pham can replace AV. Sheets plays 1B. AV can play 1B daily in AAA - its currently being played by a catcher. It also will give the Sox another year of control of AV, which gives them more flexibility with him moving forward. But being arb eligible already, he's making $3.25M this year - so he's going to have to show some life for that extra year to even matter.
  4. What’s the wait? While Montoyo is a step in the right direction, I’d much prefer something more drastic and new. Jirschele obviously makes sense. Sizemore would be interesting just as a fresh voice in charge, but obviously has no managerial experience. I don’t think JR will approve going out of the org mid season.
  5. I am all for sending AV to AAA. But he did hit the ball hard 2x yesterday. .570 xBA on that bases loaded line out to Kirilloff. Baby steps.
  6. Well he just got shifted to the 60 day, so we’re still 5 weeks from that. But ya, Sox are kinda stuck with Maldonado for now. Doesn’t mean they need to play him 5x a week.
  7. I can't say I agree about nothing to do in Minneapolis but walk through the skyway (I just happen to work in dtown MPLS), but it definitely is nice when Sox are in town because its fairly easy to run into players in the skyway.
  8. Let's fu*k around and find some wins in Minneapolis this week. The Twins are sucking right now as well, so may as well kick them a bit while they're down. We all know the more likely scenario is a 4 game sweep turns the Twins season around, but hey - I'd love to not see that happen. I will be in attendance tonight and just gave Crochet knucks in the skyway, so hey, go Sox.
  9. Remillard was the right choice. Easy dude to root for though. He'll almost certainly clear, but will now have the option to elect free agency. In my opinion, he'd be a little crazy to as his easiest path back to the big is easily the Sox and will continue to play a key role for Charlotte. But the grass is always greener...we'll see.
  10. The Sox have paid $11-12M of Benis $75M to this point. There is no chance they have waive him yet, nor should they frankly.
  11. Clevinger is on the 40 man. Pham, Pillar and Grossman can’t all be on the 26 man along with Fletcher and Benintendi, so one has to go. Justin Anderson and Remillard should be easy DFAs (tho likely needed in Charlotte) and can still put Davis Martin on the MLB 60 day. So there are some options without even getting into guys like Leone and Flexen and guys playing their way that direction in Soroka and Sosa.
  12. In other news, gotta imagine we see Mendick tomorrow for Sosa. Dudes on fire for Charlotte.
