Last winter beat the s*** out of me. Never minded winter until last year.

God please give us a more mild winter

We got 110 inches of snow last winter, they say that we'll only get 75 inches this year.

The great lakes were pretty much frozen solid last winter. I would imagine that impacted how warm they got this summer and thus will not take much to freeze them up again this winter.

On the bright side this causes the water level to rise which is a good thing.

On pure speculation on my part but it makes good sense to me.

from July:

Ricky Castro, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Chicago office, said the water off some Chicago beaches has been in the upper 50s, quite a bit cooler than the usual summer readings in the 70s.

The good thing for our side of the lake is the quicker the lake freezes, the quicker the lake effect snow stops.
