  1. That Kannapolis lineup is atrocious and should be immediate proof this is not top 5 farm system. But lot’s of good pitching, a fun Birmingham lineup, and then few quality positional guys elsewhere (Montgomery, Gonzalez, Zavala).
  2. Realistically we are likely looking at a rotation like this next year: Crochet Nastrini Thorpe Cannon Eder/Iriarte/FA I just don’t see a need for Fedde unless no one is willing to pay up for him at the deadline. If not, he’s a quality, cheap depth option to push the young kids next year.
  3. There is value to the Sox, but the reality is he is more valuable to a team in the midst of a post-season run and we can always sign a veteran next offseason to the fill void. If you can get a nice prospect or two for him at the deadline, you definitely do it.
  4. Semien’s AA season was insane offensively…only if we could have developed his defense some maybe we would have kept him.
  5. I’m assuming we see Thorpe, Pallette, & Batista today, which is a nice set of arms going.
  6. Get him back in a month or so and hopes he balls out the rest of the way. You then start exploring his value in the offseason, but only move him if you get a monster offer.
  7. Is Cannon going to stick in the rotation or will he get demoted to AAA as soon as Clevinger is ready? Seems like Nastrini is safe with Flexen moving to the pen, but this team is a lot more fun with two legit youngsters in the rotation.
  8. The Cuban pipeline outside of Robert & Ramos has not paid off.
  9. I think there is reason to be excited by the pitching. If Crochet can hold up and Nastrini & Cannon can hold their own, you could quickly have 60% of a rotation ready to go. Throw in Thorpe and one of Eder / Iriarte or a veteran free agent and the rotation could turn around pretty quickly. The offense is a challenge though and even with Montgomery, Ramos, Quero, and maybe Baldwin hitting the scene by next year, we still have a ton holes to fill. Jerry will have to spend to improve the lineup quickly, but the good news is we’re talking about the OF corners, 1B, & DH. The problem it’s a really bad free agent class for positional guys, so the margin for error will be incredibly thin.
  10. Yeah, it’s time to send Vaughn down and let him work through his s%*#. There is literally nothing to lose in doing so as he’s a legit non-tender candidate next off-season if he doesn’t substantially improve by then.
  11. Our run differential currently sits at -51 or -3.4 on a per game basis, which ranks dead last in the league and by wide margin. For reference, the Marlins are the next worse team at -35 or -2.2 per game or ~35% less bad than us. The offense has scored 34 runs or 2.3 per game. The lowest offensive output since the addition of the DH in the AL is the 2010 Mariners at 3.2 per game, which is ~40% higher than our current production. I truly believe that this squad will challenge that record, even if the offenses can’t be this bad forever.
