I'd be interested to know the rationale behind Chris Beck at 5. I'd take each of the 6-10 prospects in a one-for-one swap for Beck.

Yeah, that's an outlier on an otherwise good list. Including Rodon, I'd have May at 11 and Beck at 12. If SAdams shows anything positive in a boxscore between now and end of season, I'll bump him ahead of Beck as well - perhaps Adolfo too. Beck really needs to step up with some tangible results one of these days.

Liking the Michalczewski love. I know it's just Lo-A but he's been doing real well.

I was going to comment on that as well. He has some red flags (29% K%), but has held his own in a league where he is very young. I was surprised to see him ranked so highly, though.

I'm still surprised that Davidson has fallen so far in everyone's eyes. But these guys are as legit as it gets outside of an actual team, so I'm willing to admit that I'm the crazy one.

He's had an admittedly rough year, but I really don't think he's that far off of the numbers he was putting up for Reno. His BABIP is down like 100 points from that season, his power is up, and his K and BB rates aren't that far apart. I honestly just think that too much of these rankings is put into the reputation of the system and how much these teams pump up the values of their own guys to publications. In Arizona, he was viewed as someone similar to the next Mark Reynolds, who is a great hitter with whom to be compared. He comes to Chicago and due to his struggles, he's viewed as the next Fields or Morel and people ignore him.

I still really like Davidson.

A 30% K rate as a AAA repeater is going to scare some people. I still love the Reed trade, but even I thought Davidson was a bit overrated when we acquired him. I don't care that he posted a 117 wRC+ at Reno, Adam Eaton posted a 163 wRC+ is his time there and he's basically an average major league hitter. Davidson still has age on his side, and obviously the power potential is legit, but I don't trust guys with significant contact issues at AAA. Hell, Adam Dunn only struck out 20% of the time when he was in AAA. Without significant progress, Davidson's contact issues would only be exploited more at the major league level.

Can you imagine a rotation with Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Danish and with Spencer Adams/Luis Martinez down the line? That sounds pretty scary and could make the Sox very dangerous for the years to come.

In regards to the system in general, this is the strongest the farm has been in years, maybe a decade.

Since the days of Jon Rauch and Matt Ginter, when Baseball America loved the early days of Kenny Stanford and rated the Sox system #1

Believe it was 2000.

How'd the system get so s***ty? Even in 2007 it wasn't so bad, but I guess trades and poor drafting added to it and the Latin American scandal

Poorly drafted: Broadway, McCullouch, Lumsden

Traded Away: Richard, Poreda, Hudson, Gio

Ravelo should be #3. Geez, He's hitting .320 in AA and he's 22.

I think they are too high on Micah Johnson. He looks like a solid player, but if you look at his overall line this year, it is not that great.

.312 BA, .369 OBP, .417 SLG, .787 OPS and 18 SBs to 11 CSs. Even though Semien is not eligible, I have no hesitation thinking he will be the better pro.

He's making excellent contact but the walks and power have disappeared in Triple-A. The exact same thing happened to him last year when making the jump from A to A+. Maybe he just takes a while to adjust to a new level?

Micah has played a significant % of his time in Charlotte with a bad hamstring. His July is looking damn good. It's also encouraging that he's hitting lefties better than ever before. For all the talk of "hands-of-stone", he has 8 total errors between the two levels while having much more range than Beckham, supposedly. And it isn't just Hawk that likes him, we've heard the word untouchable.

I like Semien too, though.

I think he can be a solid starter at the ML but I am not convinced he is untouchable. Personally I think Semien's skill-set translate better to the Majors than Micah. Between the two, I'll take Semien who is probably superior in all aspects of the game except speed. The speed is exciting of Micah for sure but I think there is still a lot left to be desired.

I believe that both are in the long-term plans. I'm not convinced Micah's untouchable either, but I haven't heard Hahn put that label on anyone else in the minors. Semien still needs to hit RHP better, imo.

For about a decade we spent all our money on the majors, and traded every prospect we could to get more major leaguers.

Where did you hear that he's untouchable?

Micah's speed is pretty close to 80 on the 80 scale if he not there already, and speed is one of the few things that translates well to the ML. He wow'd many scouts and also drew a few more critics on his bandwagon during his Future Game showing.

I would also say his contact hitting is also superior compared to Semien. He has taken a while to adjust to Triple A, as he did with Double A, but his minor league K% and BA are all superior to what Semien has put up.

Regardless, I'd like to see Micah at 2B and Marcus at SS for the next 5-10 years, and I think both will be solid regulars with a few borderline all star seasons.

Ravelo is limited to a position that power is a requisite but does not have appropriate power for that position. If he could play another position his profile would be much more valuable.
