Ideally, to me, it would be Stassi and Lee, but obviously that's not possible. I guess they can let Lee play AAA. But I thought he did a good job last year behind the plate; and his .100 average was probably fluky/sample-size on the bad side. Not that I expect him to hit well, but I'm not convinced he'll learn much from Charlotte. As for Mendick, he was terrible last year (of course, most of the players on this team were terrible last year). He's had his shot here; give someone else a chance. I was surprised Touki was dumped; yea, he had a rough spring, but he's got a lot of control and there is some talent there. Shaw had a lousy spring too, and yet he apparently will make it. I'd go with Chavez over Shaw.

I have no idea who will make it. But from what I've seen, Lee should make it over Stassi; Mendick would be ridiculous. As for Kopech, yes he was good out of the pen in 2021; but he was good as a starter in 2022. I'm not sure that the the pen is the magic salve.
  3. Or maybe they are just doing what the prior FO either a)Should have done in the first place; or b)Not draft him in the first round in the first place.
  4. I was also thinking Tanner Banks, although lefty-lefty wouldn't be ideal. Banks, despite the AAAA reputation, has been effective pretty much every season he's pitched in pro ball. He's never had a WHIP above 1.4. He has 100 pro starts. Now his FIP was a tad high last year, I guess because he doesn't have high K totals. And what I like best is that he minimizes the walks.
  5. I guess the idea is that he pitches three innings every fifth day and then moves into the rotation full-time next season. That might work.
  6. F+, but in generosity of spirit, I rounded up to a D.
  7. With each passing hour, the trade feels worse and worse to me. We really received nothing of note. That said, I think the Sox will win in the 70s, with the proviso that they won't dump their short-term pitching in July. If they do, and they should if they can, then low 60s again.
  8. Just another Getz trade where it seems that we didn't make the other team feel any pain. They gave up none of their best products. We gave up one of the best pitchers in baseball. The best prospect they relinquished is the player they just got from the Yankees (a red flag in itself), so there isn't the sense of loss. And then, of course, the obligatory middle reliever, which I suppose is better than getting a utility infielder. I suppose the return is okay, but nothing special and disappointing.
  9. How the players impact the Sox’ performance is the only thing that really matters. But yes, whether we face cease or not is minor. Preller does deals. He’s a good guy to trade with.
  10. Padres. I don’t know what his farm looks like but he’s always willing to trade and we’d only face Cease at most once.
  11. That Rosenthal trade with the Rangers would be a real clown act. Porter, Leiter and a utility infielder. Good gracious. I didn’t like Leiter in the draft, and he’s only gotten worse.
  12. Peavy trade ended up being okay. Prospects we traded didn't do much and we flipped him for Avi and Montas. (not that we got a whole lot out of them). Of course, we withheld our top pitching prospect from the Peavy trade, but then traded him next summer for E Jackson and his 5+ ERA
  13. I like him. But he's a back 1/2er (of the top100), right? I like another one of their SS too. But, you know, the idea is to get the guys who will be there tomorrow, even if they aren't yet there today. He may be top 30 in a year.
