  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 10:24 AM) We usually have a high tolerance for fans of other teams. For a while we actively encouraged other AL Central fans to stop by and do previews. But the bad posters seemed to out weigh the good and we dropped that area. I actually am enjoying seeing Detroit in the Series. I think it is good for baseball. About the only Detroit team I couldn't stand were the Bad Boy Piston teams of the late 80s. Welcome. Have you decided where to watch the games? Yeah I'm heading home to watch the games with my dad. Might convince the whole family to go to a bar or theater. Alot of theaters are showing the games around here which I think is good. In response about the Tigers 07 debate. Its much like the debate probably was about the 06 Sox in 2005. No one really knows. They could come back stronger, the same or much weaker. Theres something to be said about the wear and tear a team and pitching staff takes by going deep in the playoffs. I just hope above all that Cleveland doesn't win the division next year. Is that wrong of me? PS - I was around earlier in the season but I haven't had much to contribute and I figure if I don't have anything intelligent to add its not worth wasting a post.
  2. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) this thread has turned into a giant pwning fest...with all due respect to our actual Tiger fan representatives who have some class I have been reading all this and I haven't posted anything because I didn't want to be "that guy" who brags in the good times and keeps his mouth shut when things are going bad for his team. But I'm enjoying this time because it may not come again for another 20 years.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) I don't know about the poll, but I have notice that the Tigers fans have disappeared quicker than a buffet table at the Williams household since their slump began. I just haven't had much to say. I've stopped by to read what everyone was saying, but I figure if I don't have anything intelligent to say I shouldn't post. I have NO IDEA who will make it. This weekend will be telling but its not the final call. It should be fun, extremely maddening but fun.
  4. Guys I know that there are alot of Cubs 'fans' here so I thought I'd post this. I found this song by a fairly unknown artist. The gist of the song is this guy going through a list of impossible things that would have to happen before he'd love this girl again. And the chorus goes "And the Chicago Cubs will beat every team in the league and the Tampa Bay bucs will make it into January And I will love you again" -The Mountain Goats - "Cubs In Five" I stumbled across it and figured everyone would find it funny.
  5. Well I said I'd be here even when they lost. And I'm here. The Tigers got man-handled. This doesn't bode well for the playoffs. I was hoping that they would atleast win one (and I really wanted two) but they didn't. The Sox are back on track and I would say the team to beat (Yankees have the hype the Sox have the team). So I suppose we'll see. I've been saying for monthes that the division wasn't sewn up and we all see that is very true. I tip my hat to Ozzie and the Sox Team.
  6. This weekend should be fun. I hope for close games with no injuries. Verlander vs Count should be a good matchup. I hope Verlander is rested and not seeing deadarm. Tonight will show that. Sat showcases two lefties who have struggled as of late. So I don't know what to think of that. It might come down to who pulls the starter first and which bullpen performs better. Sunday is up for grabs too. I'm predicting Tigers take 2-3 (Homer pick I know but I can't help myself) Wish I could be there. Should be a great series to watch. (Would have posted in the game thread but I figured that would be frowned upon )
  7. I don't think so but Boras could be part of this group
  8. To move away from the quipping and arguments I was reading about the Miller contract that the Tigers just signed with their 1st round pick. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft/news/262119.html I'm not the best person to judge this because I have only seen Miller throw three pitches (in the CWS this year) but does he have the stuff to join the Tigers in Sept?
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 11:53 AM) (He wasn't insulting the Tigers, he's insulting the people who were pissed on this page that the White Sox, without Thome and Konerko, only managed to take 2/3 from the Royals) Yeah I know, I just replied because I think in both of those situations those teams are in last place because of inconsistancy. Both teams can play with "the big boys" but just not day in and day out. So I agree that those that complain need to relax. Good teams should beat up on bad teams but you're not going to sweep them every single time.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 10:38 AM) I thought first place teams always swept last place teams, and definately didn't split with them??? Should have but this "last place team" put 19 runs on the first place team in the East so I think I can live with the losses. I don't like them but I can live with it. Plus we only loss half a game on the Sox
  11. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:31 PM) if you're tired of hearing it then maybe you should try posting on a tigers board. Then again, I wouldn't recommend that either. I was surfing some motorsports site and it was full of kool-aid drinking sox haters who are already mapping out the parade route for October. Comical, but pointless. Wooo. I wasn't talking about this board I was talking about the talking heads on the radio and TV. If anything most of the people have been giving the Tigers respect (on this board). And I don't go to Motownsports because its full of homers, 16 year old kids and people who don't know much about baseball.
  12. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 09:06 AM) So I guess the Sox can back out these last 2 weeks at the end of the year. I for one believe that the Tigers will be seeing the White Sox challenging for the Division Title before the end of the year. Slumps come and go. Good teams work through them.
  13. QUOTE(flbob @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 08:53 AM) detroit had a 3-7 week-and-a-half in late may/early june, against teams that at the time were able to get into the tigers' heads. the season was young and the team was as surprised at its early success as the rest of the world. include the 0-3 sweep by a differently performing cws back in april and the tigers showed 3-10 against teams with winning records early on. back out that bad stretch and the tigers have been 21-12 against the best. this series against the twins is the tough test in my book. playing minnie at their place has not been easy for anyone the past few years. the rotation for that series is miner, robertson, bonderman. miner against liriano is almost a certain loss, although the tigers' record against lefties is really good. the other two could go either way. this is maturing tigers team. i don't see the yankees or red sox having anywhere near the same psychological advantage over the late 2006 tigers. feel free to bash me for playing with numbers - i certainly would, albeit quietly and to myself. :7) I couldn't have said it better. I'm tired of hearing how "The tigers haven't played well against teams with a winning record". I think that will change. This weekend will be tough. The baseball world will see two hot teams clash.
  14. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 09:55 AM) Gibbons chalenged him to match of fistacuffs And Hillenbrandy choose not to fight him. Wimp. He didn't want to end up like Latrell Spreewell. You know nothing good would have come from that fight. Except for some revenge for spring training workouts? It would have better if Hillebrand stood up and said "I'm not going to fight an old guy like you. I don't hit guys older than my dad"
  15. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) No problem at all. I am sure that the next time Konerko hits a dong off of him, when Konerko flips the bat or stares at the ball going into the dark of the night that Zumaya just remembers that its part of the game. I agree whole heartedly. Just like I truely wish that I could see a defensive back pick off a pass or fumble from Terrel Owens or Chad Johnson and do a dance or celebration in the endzone. It think its part of the game. I think its the thin line and of course people will support the players on their favorite teams. Thats just why I asked. I didn't see a big deal but I figured I was being a homer. I think if you look back on history was Fisk's jumping up and down over the top? Maybe but it was in celebration of an amazing moment. Was Gibson's arm pumping too much? Who knows, but its memorable and a timeless image of that moment. (I'm not placing Zumaya in that class just speaking to celebration)
