  1. nope...just followed him since Purdue and have found the pursuit of the dream an interesting journey...this forum has taught me much, thank you had a daughter that played college softball there...you know how "proud parents" don't always share the rest of story...so following his story has become a sort of a hobby...he is a good guy and we all know someone who played Minor League ball...but he just kept playing Our family learned a lot about money, injury, actual education and just plain luck, bad or good...degree and/or life after college athletics...i had two kids who went professional in something other than sports after their college careers...and are doing great ... while i work at home to pay my portion of the parents plus student loans, it has been interesting to use the internet and follow this kid, dan black, who has gone "professional in sport" he was a boilermaker who was talented, crazy reaction times, strong, right attitude and always made his teammates better...always gave his team a chance to win...and took responsibility when they did not. First time I saw him he was dying his hair a different color every week to keep their winning streak alive...respects the game and would bring the rookies along, while making sure they paid their dues...kind of old school, blue collar As a fan I got hooked listening to your White Sox minor league games over internet radio, and although his name was mentioned way down the list from Phegley (yuck IU) and Thompson, Simeon, Blanke, Wilkins, etc...I could still hear in the local announcer's voice, when Dan Black stepped to the plate, there was a chance the game was on his bat...i think he is not only a good teammate but good for the people in the seats, wherever he plays... A resident of arizona, I got a chance to see him play in minor league spring training, instructional, extended, as a white sox fill in against and later with team USA and last year as white sox major league camp invitee...how sox player development encouraged him to go to the Dominican and it was one of your posters helped me find him in Korea Dang it... I missed the Team USA Elite thing in AZ after the Korean Baseball stint..but Google search turned up the Marlins thing. You know, I will probably stop by the Camelback Ranch minor league fields out of habit, I have been hanging out under a shade tree there since 2009...it is a great facility and about an hour from our small town...it got to be a habit to catch a game or practice and put faces to the names I would hear on the radio...as an old jock, at least we think we see things we like, or don't, the intangibles that don't make the stats : ) Poor Dan Black has to go to Florida for spring training ; ) but I know he is glad to be still playing, even it is just building on the experiences he will pass on as a coach some day...one of your posters endorsed his Korean play, saying he deserved to put some money in his pocket, nice to have that insider reflection. You guys tell me, I hear tales of long bus rides and rain in florida....If you are headed this way I have windows open, there is not a cloud in the sky...in the '70s ... bring your sun screen and we are going to start looking for rattlesnakes this weekend. Quick trip to the fields in Peoria from our little cowboy town of Wickenburg, we have a lot of people who are starting to stay here, they grab lunch at the Bar 7 or mexican food at Anita's then head down...they finished the loop 303, so it is a pretty quick trip to camelback ranch or Goodyear, too...even saw one of our cops doing traffic control... ; ) he was an Illinois kid ... your fans are loyal for sure so good luck to you...it was really fun following an organization with a rich history, generations of fans and an infrastructure that includes media (and blogger) access to the farm system as well as the Big Team ... all the way to the Birmingham championship was fun : ) every one of your teams he played with got to win, it was fun to follow...and watching Tommy Thompson coach was a riot I think dan's white sox future was decided when they signed Abreu or even before; I mean Goldschmidt was kind of a regular guy that came out of nowhere, but not really, if you look at his minor league numbers...but he had to live up to the numbers --nice guys don't always finish last... I grew up with Jerry Colangelo, I was 9 years old when he brought the Phoenix Suns to Arizona...so we have that Chicago sports foundation-connection...I know he used some of your model to build the Dbacks, i never saw Mr. Colangelo in anything but a suit until he started building the stadium, my daughter yelled at the TV, "he looks like a regular, happy, grandpa" he was in a polo shirt, lol... our teams and most especially our fans, miss his "sports professionalism" badly!! actually Team USA and the Grand Canyon University Antelopes are benefiting greatly from his light duty, while our Suns sink in the WEST... Good luck White Sox...guess I will have to change all my links and try to figure out the grapefruit...or maybe it is back to Google Translator Go Sox...thanks for the ride : )
  2. oops...stuck this on the wrong board..."rookie" mistake http://web.usabaseball.com/article.jsp?ymd...nt_id=155144928 rats, missed it...could have watched them in Arizona not in Florida, don't imagine Marlins set up camp here : ( http://web.usabaseball.com/article.jsp?ymd...nt_id=155144928 ...this is kind of a "pick a player in college & watch how it plays out" story...thanks for the heads up and improving my baseball IQ hardcore Sox fan-ily : ) grass still green here in arizona, see ya for spring training...bring a sweatshirt
  3. Like I said interesting: Looks like Andy Wilkins, once White Sox prospect, will be rostering up with the Aguilas in Dan's spot? The Cibao Eagles announced the signing first baseman Andy Wilkins and three pitchers including known and Bobby Shane Youman Korecky, in addition to the pitching staff with Sean Bierman The information was released by Quilvio Hernandez, president of the eaglets in the course of a meeting with members of the press in the fellowship area of the Cibao Stadium "These players are part of the component needed to strengthen specific areas where our Baseball Operations Department understands that we have to strengthen r" Hernandez said. He said that the Eagles have a tenth player to be announced, and later offered that name. "We are already looking forward to start the ball, when we open the 28th of this month our camp Andy Wilkins is 27, 6-1 tall and 220 pounds. Bats left-handed, he comes from playing with Nofolk AAA Tides, branch of the Baltimore Orioles of the International League, where he finished with .251 average with 18 homers, 79 RBIs, 62 runs, .315 OBP and OPS. 762 in 126 games in which agotó434 shifts, totaling 29 doubles, one triple and closed with 48 extra-base hits.
  4. nope...just following the ride...it has been interesting watching it all unfold...how many come and go...he is back playing and doing well rip yogi ... we heard lots of great stories about the game and the neighborhood from JoeG when he was commentating for AZ Diamondbacks ... don't chew tobacco
  5. http://www.cdn.com.do/noticias/2015/08/21/...orada-20152016/ i used google translate...talk of him playing again for aguilas have not heard how recovery on fracture is coming along...i keep checking.
  6. injured...global sports integration reports hairline fracture, wrist, Korean Baseball Organization, Kt Wiz

  8. NorthSideSox72 : ) https://video.xx.fbcdn.net/hvideo-xft1/v/t4...amp;oe=5579A781 congratulations, u seem to have hit it right on the head...let the marketing start...although i would have edited the whiff out of there, but they have a small video sample to work with... any one speak korean, what does it say in that conversation bubble i suppose i should shut this thread down...if anyone wants to follow dan's progress, I have settled into the KT Wiz facebook page for daily video game summaries and the Global Sports Integration facebook page, that appears to be an agent or at least transition service, paid for by the players or team? http://sports.media.daum.net/v/20150611181720882 hmmm catching popped up here This process has been very interesting to me as a fan following him from college through 2 drafts, extended, rookie to AAA, team USA, non-roster invitee, spring training fill in, the dominican and now this...definitely the trenches never underestimate the love of the game or we wouldn't be posting here ; ) they haven't filed last night's game highlights yet... Go Sox, still following the team and franchise : ) although I am a dbacks fan...my dblack dback thing didn't work out : ) little guy named Goldschmidt, he's alright!!!
  9. this one more like a Dan Black HR...i can't tell where it landed team is starting to win..imho even though he is just a "blue collar" or "organizational filler" maybe it is his personality? But he seems to pick a team up, the other players seem to play better when he joins a team...to me, coming through youth and developmental leagues, all sports, there are players that compete against their own teammates to get to the next level...and there are players that u just want to play on their team, you know u have a chance to win...I believe he did that at Bristol and for the Barons? injured and short sample seasons for the Knights? lot of short game in this league, bouncers and slaps...wheels
  10. I think first home run...looks like a little flare but went out : )
  11. http://www.homeplate.kr/kbo-scores okay...so apparently the kt wiz are an expansion team playing an exhibition season? http://www.homeplate.kr/expansion-related-news-items there is a daily video recap, similar to gametracker scoring plays posted on kt wiz facebook page
  12. https://www.facebook.com/GlobalSportingIntegration?fref=nf i assume this is a service either the players or the teams pay for to market, transition or recruit players...as a retired journalist, i find this process interesting...again great heads up and thx i installed the google translate app to my firefox, easier to follow on real computer than phone
  13. looks like following the video highlights on facebook is how we can follow...best of luck
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2015 -> 08:30 AM) Black was a guy who way particularly old for every level, wasn't likely to contribute anything more than Wilkins did for us last year, probably was told he similarly wouldn't have much of a chance with any of the other big league teams, but could earn a decent wage overseas. This happens with guys who hang around the minors for a while. IMHO Black more of a team guy than wilkins...he made other guys better, if he was on your team u had a chance to win, he would put the team on his back several times a season but was also a player, just one of the guys, who would say "pick me up" let's get the win...blue collar Will be interesting to see how much of a factor he was in "winnning" at charlotte...maybe to small of a small sample? Looks like kt wiz new team at the bottom...I have found scoreboards but no box scores yet...!?@$!? Interesting http://www.hardballtimes.com/keep-an-eye-on-korean-baseball / He made a mark and became an effective team guy for the Aguilas...how fun to be a one-two punch with Manny Rameriz, I don't care who u r... Again I can find scoreboard and stats...Purdue alum Josh lindblom doing well..but I can't find box scores....Dominican linked and formatted through mlb.com and. Milb.com Interesting journey through the game, respect the game.
