Article on Hanley Ramirez

LaRoche for HanRam plus cash and perhaps some exchange of prospects. We can put him at 3rd. If he falters at some point he moves to now open DH slot.

Edit: posted so that I will be congratulated as a great predictor when this happens

The best part is, that while the Sox lose Laroche after 2016, they'd get 4 years of Hanley, at only twice Laroche's salary!

It's 3 years of Hanley and you missed the part where the Red Sox pay a significant part of his salary.

There is some dollar amount at which this is a worthwhile gamble for the Sox. Either way it's an infinitely smarter move than Todd Frazier.

Well, I agree that Todd Frazier would not be a smart play.

It might be a decent play w/ money IF Henley could play defense.

No thanks. He seems pretty content to cash his checks and give token efforts

This is how I feel. If LaRoche is so bad, he still only has one year left to be paid. Unless Boston is making it like the Angels made Josh Hamilton, I see no upside in acquiring a guy who doesn't seem too interested in playing.

Not to pile on but I just cannot convince myself to get on board with the idea of Ramirez regardless of how much money Boston was willing to send. Pain in his throwing shoulder is rather concerning and if the pain came back, sure he could be moved to DH but then the Sox are left with a void at 3B... again.

Think I'd rather go through another season of LaRoche and hope for the best.

Not if you sign Zobrist as your starting LF and backup plan at 3B, moving Melky/Avi to DH. It's obviously not without risk but it's an avenue to upgrade 3B and OF (and OF defense) at a fraction of the years and dollars required to just sign one of Upton/Cespedes/Heyward/Gordon. And it is not one of the clown ass proposals that presumes to trade the entire farm and/or Quintana (during a rebuild!!!) to get Frazier or Longoria (not happening) or Arenado (not happening).

I have to imagine 3B is where Hanley would most want to play. I don't buy that he's done at 31. If we don't get him, he is playing 3B for the Angles or Astros next year.

All depends on how motivated the Red Sox want to get rid of him, and/or Sandoval. Ramirez is probably the first to go.

They'd probably prefer to play Bradley, Jr., Betts and Castillo and go younger, all things being equal.

If it was Jeff Banister, I would trust him to get the most/best out of Ramirez. But Ventura? That leaves it all predicated on who the new Hispanic bench coach is, and his relationship with Hanley.

Personally, I'd rather role the dice on Puig.

No thank you to both Ramirez and Zobrist. Both over 30, heading downhill, the Sox don't need more stiffs who are unmotivated with big expensice contracts.

If the Sox are going to continue to suck (and they probably will) I'd rather see a bunch of kids who at least care.

But can they play?

Oh hell no!

The white sox should not even consider taking on Ramirez. Not only is it a bad move for the pale hosers, it just helps Boston. They got a do-over in 2012, and they basically doubled down on bloated contracts for undeserving talent or washups. The white sox need to shed payroll as well as unproductivr players. Ramirez is both.

These words do not have any meaning without context. Paul Konerko was over 30, heading downhill for at least 5 years when he was the best hitter on the Sox

Ben Zobrist "heading downhill" is a better player than anyone on the Sox other than Abreu and Eaton.

A-Rod is over 40 and heading downhill and he hit as well as Jose Abreu this year.

Avi Garcia is under 25 and heading nowhere.
