Shelby Miller

What if we double down on our rotation while we continue to search for offense?

Keep Q, Sale, Danks, Rodon & Fulmer.

Add Shelby Miller, let Fulmer spend 2016 in AAA. Add some camp invite guys for SP depth.

Would Erik Johnson, Montas, Micah Johnson & Tyler Danish get it done for Miller? Maybe get an infield prospect back as well?

Would those assets be better used to get offense? Or do you like Miller enough with 3 seasons of control left?

Would it take Fulmer & Adams to get him? Would you do it if it did? It's not like there are a plethora of options like Miller available via any means. I don't like Tyson Ross as an AL SP. He has a hard enough time staying mediocre pitching in SD and vs the NL West.

I actually wouldn't mind doubling down on the rotation but am not sure I'd like to trade our weak farm system for it. I also don't find that package appealing at all for miller if I was braves.

I'd prefer if we go this route to hunt these mid level sp pitchers and hope for the best.

If, big if, we emptied the farm system it better be for an impact bat to hit behind Abreu.

very true, however trading with Atl, their GM is one of the savviest gm in most of baseball.

the sox would get fleeced.

Oh for goodness sakes. He's a #3 starter. he had a 3.7 second half ERA against NL Competition.

You want to trade a 4/5 (who could get better - I know, I know, Erik isn't "proven") plus a top 100 prospect, plus one of our best hitting and pitching prospects for a NL #3?

What a sorry use of resources.

This is also a reason why the Sox draft so many pitchers: So that they a) don't have to do overpay deals like this and b) if they would stop so being sentimental about any player who produces, they could move one of their pitchers and get someone to overpay them.

Too many offensive holes to fill to waste resources on more pitching. The Sox need to remain focused on acquiring young hitting talent.

Just a friendly reminder that the Sox were 28th in runs scored last season.

This is all that really needs to be said.

Would Miller be a great pickup if the Sox had an offense like the Blue Jays do? Yes, but they don't, so the Sox need to save all their trade assets for hitting.

The only way a Miller trade makes sense is if we trade Q 1st and then circle back to help our staff out...Wonder if a starting package of Micah, Avi, and Montas even gets us in the door though?

I will say that advanced stats really don't like Miller (big FIP difference in all 3 years) and a move to the AL and our ballpark could be a pretty bad mix for him. I wouldn't sell the farm for 2 years of him.

I don't think Atlanta considers without Fulmer and/or Anderson involved. Sox don't need Miller anyway.

Agreed, peripherals aren't great, and he likely got a bit lucky on HR/FB rate this season. He also pitched in one of the worst offensive divisions in recent memory. Steamer has him pegged for an ERA over 4 next year, and that's without considering a move to the AL.
