Could the Rays be looking to move to MTL?

That makes a lot of sense. Do the Rays/Expos stay in the AL or do we get some sort of realignment that gets them back in the NL?

Think they'd have to stay in the AL at that point. MLB has had no problem with moving teams across leagues (in the past 15 years, we've seen both Milwaukee and Houston switch spots).

It would also make the AL East a much smaller geographic spread of a division.

I know Toronto & Montreal aren't THAT close, but I wonder if they would want to keep the Canadian teams in separate leagues, just like the Yankees/Mets, Cubs/Sox, Giants/As, etc.

It would be great just leaving them where they are. 18 or 19 head to heads. Montreal is a pretty cool place. I would love for it to happen for road trip purposes, and hopefully a return of the Expos with the same type of uniforms.

Agreed. Hopefully it would give them both a bump at the gate to get 9 or 10 premium rivalry games a year, and keep them both healthy fiscially.

Sounds like a leverage ploy against the cities of St Petersburg and Tampa.

Now that St Pete has a new mayor, maybe talks between the two cities and organization will lead to something. The old mayor of St Petersburg had zero interest in allowing the Rays to try and work out a way to move the team across the bay.

Just my opinion, but I think they would leave them in the AL East. They would be natural rivals with Toronto, who could use a bolt of energy in their fan base since its been 20+ years since they've been to the post-season.

Not to mention Montreal being a hockey town, Habs fans don't like the Rangers, and they really don't like the Bruins. So that could carry over to baseball and be huge rivals with the Yankees, and Red Sox.
