RIP

Something has got to be done about the wide availability of guns, FFS

Nothing will happen though, this is now the new normal.

Yeah, I don't really have much left.

People killed in a mass shooting barely made me pause when I got the news alert.

That's the price of freedom.

MexSox said it all. The new normal. So very sad what's become of my America and your America. Tony I disagree with your statement. Cmon. It's not the price of freedom. It's the price of stupidity. The founding fathers did not want this bulls*** to happen in the name of freedom. They'd have come up with a happy medium with the right to bear arms vs. this crap.

This is going on in America more than anyplace else and I don't personally think it's cause we are land of the free.

I'll tell u what: We all need to have meetings in our communities to discuss how we need to be alert now everywhere we go to mass shooters. I take a good long look around my church every Mass I go to to see if there's anything out of the ordinary going on.

I also am close to saying we should stop covering the perpetrators. We've had so many of these shootings I'm to the point I don't care who the shooter is. Just tell us if it's a lone deranged troubled gunman or if it's Isis or some group like that. If it is, tell us a bit more, but I'm sick of glorifying the killers. In most of these cases we don't really need to know what set them off. Either they are doing it for a radical group, if so tell us which one, or they are doing it because they are deranged.

Sorry I'm very emotional again about this shooting so I may have inadvertently angered some of you with my post.

p.s. I just read there was a hero in Texas. Some man got out his own rifle and chased the gunman out of the church. Amazing person. Brave!

Kelley was a member of the US Air Force and served at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico from 2010 until his discharge, according to Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek.

Kelley was court-martialed in 2012 for assault on his spouse and assault on their child, according to Stefanek. Kelley served a year in prison and received a bad conduct discharge in 2014, the spokeswoman said. His rank was also reduced, she said.

I am a supporter of the 2ND amendment but how does a man with his history legally obtain a gun?

The United States locks up more of its population proportionally than any other country in the world, including authoritarian regimes such as Russia and China, according to the International Centre for Prison Studies.

It also leads in another dubious statistic: More Americans are killed by fellow citizens armed with guns than in any other advanced country, according to the Small Arms Survey. In 2011 alone, according to FBI statistics, more than 11,000 Americans were killed by firearms in the United States (a figure that excludes suicides).

Despite all the reasonable concerns in the United States about jihadist terrorism, in any given year Americans are almost 2,000 times more likely to be killed by a fellow American armed with a gun than by a jihadist terrorist. Since the 9/11 attacks, 103 people have been killed on US soil by jihadist terrorists, according to data collected by New America. Just last week, in fact, eight people were killed in a terrorist attack in lower Manhattan.

By contrast, in the United Kingdom, a country which is similar to the United States in terms of its laws and culture, Britain suffers around 50 to 60 gun deaths a year in a country where the population is around a fifth the size of the United States. In other words, you are about 40 times more likely to be killed by an assailant with a gun in the United States than you are in the United Kingdom.

The "good guy with a gun" narrative here will be interesting to see play out...especially since there was a report this particular gunman was "run off" by a parishioner who was able to get his rifle and fire back (early indications are the shooter committed suicide, but that's not 100% confirmed). Unfortunately, it seems most of the fatalities were struck from behind (he started firing from outside) and had no way of getting out of that church.

Do we really want to have a society where it's necessary to bring guns to church?

Do we really believe that's what the Founding Fathers intended, when the right to bear arms/form a militia were more about repelling British or Native American attacks or wild animals?

Trump, at any rate, is off the hook having to attend the funerals/memorial (due to his 12 day Asia trip), but he will certainly be accused of "overlooking" this or under-tweeting compared to the incident last weekend with 8 being run down in NYC...the number of tweets about this event and Las Vegas/Stephen Paddock won't come anywhere close to ISIS-related terror events around Europe and in the US. The president actually spent more time trying to force or spin the casino robbery/fire/arson in Manila into a "terrorist" event, but the narrative we'll undoubtedly see here about a shooter from a relatively poor white/US military/Sunday school teacher background is the textbook definition of one of his core supporters.

Dylan Roof, Stephen Paddock and this guy are not "animals"....they're troubled/tragic figures with "psychological problems/issues" but at least they're treated more humanely in the media.

A lot of states have s*** or non-existent gun laws.

I can believe that and further to you're point. I know people that have a medicinal mj card and a FOID card and they have said that getting the FOID card was relatively easy whereas getting their medicinal card was a major pain in the ass. Says alot about Illinois law makers.

And Illinois has some of the toughest gun laws. Imagine how easy it is to get a gun in say, Indiana, where most guns used in gun-offenses in Chicago originate.

While some states passed tougher gun laws in the wake of Sandy Hook, the overall impact was that gun laws because less strict throughout the nation. Instead, we get ideas like arming every teacher in every classroom or the solution is that everyone should carry a deadly weapon on them to a place of worship.

Il are some of the stricter as well, but yeah, getting my FOID card was easy as hell.

Its all the other stuff. There is basically no electronic trail of any gun owner in the country. There is some paper, and thats it. Even the local laws are worthless considering the federal laws and gun lobby make sure all people have some chance to get a gun (profits!!!)

The second amendment wasnt written to ensure every people carry a gun at all times, nor did they envision semi-automatic rifles. Those MF'ers had to tear open packets of powder for every shot.

I am struggling to think of a single scenario that would get Congress to finally act. The only one I could come up with is a gunman or two shot up and killed most of Congress on live TV while they were in session. That might not even do it.

Indiana, Wisconsin and Mississippi.

I think IL should build a wall on the Indiana and Wisconsin borders. Charge a tax for WI and IN residents entering the state. If they're caught with a gun they get deported to Guantanamo or a private prison.

They would change security rules for entering congress.

See, that's really f***ed up, but explains alot. Hate to bring up the medicinal mj again but card holders are part of an electronic system that's so advanced that their allowance is tracked digitally and are only allowed to purchase from the dispensary they signed up with. But they don't do this guns, hmmm.

I think it's about more than just profits. A quick Google Search about ' population control 'can be quite revealing. Ted Turner/Henry Kissinger, I'm looking at you. Stupid people with guns killing each other helps curb the population and provides sadistic entertainment for assholes like them.

In April 2016, Kelley purchased the Ruger AR-556 rifle he allegedly used in the shooting from a store in San Antonio, Texas, a law enforcement official said. There was no disqualifying information in the background check conducted as required for the purchase, a law enforcement official told CNN.

At one point, the shooter tried to get a license to carry a gun in Texas but was denied by the state, Abbott said, citing the director of Texas' Department of Public Safety.

"So how was it that he was able to get a gun? By all the facts that we seem to know, he was not supposed to have access to a gun," Abbott said. "So how did this happen?"

By law, electronic records of the purchase and owner are deleted after 24 hours. Only paper locally remains.

I was driving in the car today and Rush had some good takes.

He said twitter and all the leftists were blasting people who offered prayers for the victims. All the Bill Maher copiers were mocking Christians for offering mere prayer to what they deem is a waste of space as there is no God.

Rush made a good point saying the leftist commentators never blast and mock people who are Islamic, etc. And all the other religions. Only Christians are fair game to be mocked. Don't blame the messenger. Rush brought it up.

Secondly ... Rush said the left should be ashamed of itself for turning on Vin Scully. Scully was basically worshiped by the left and right alike for his excellent broadcasting work. However since he said he won't ever watch another NFL game because of the players kneeling during the anthem, he now has been turned on and attacked. Rush said the people criticizing Vin are misguided.

Your first paragraph is so true and shows everything that's wrong with this country. When there is a mass shooting, one side of the country can't jump on their pedestal quick enough and gloat about their stances on guns. But when an Islamic terrorist attack occurs, they are quiet and the other side of the country can't stop screaming "close the borders!!". Everything gets so politicized, it really seems some people are happy when these events occur.
