:o You have to do it the day of.. What are you doing??!

It is day of on the eastern coast. Also I wanted to get it posted before someone else made one, which would ruin my terrific 2-0 game thread record.

Edit: Just fished through the archives and it's actually a 3-1 record but with a 2 game winning streak. My bad, forgot a couple.

Everybody knows not to start the game thread for a game after a win. You don't need to worry about rushing to get it made.

How? Davidson's in AAA.

A 23 year old possible franchise third baseman for a closer on a 4-13 team right now. Real easy, even if he isn't a franchise third baseman, you do that trade 10 times out of 10 unless you have Mariano Rivera

Right, but it's not like the D'backs were going to be serious contenders this year (maybe they thought they were, but they were delusional) where they were giving up a guy who wasn't going to help them immediately in order to get a closer. Davidson will be with the Sox by 2015 if not later this season, and Reed will be hitting arbitration and becoming more costly.

Right, and his arbitration clock hasnt even started yet, whereas Reed is a year closer to free agency. If you can make a trade for a potential franchise player at 3rd for a closer, you do it.

It started with 51 days on the active roster last year.

On the other side, if you are the Dbacks, if you can trade someone you see as a busted prospect for a legit ML closer, you do that too. Davidson is doing everything he can to make the Dbacks look good in that trade hitting .224/.321/.347 with a 45% K rate at AAA. I think it was a good trade for the Sox, but there is still a significant probability that Davidson will never make enough contact to be a ML regular.

Possibility, definitely not probability. And his K rate is 39%, not 45% so far. K rate is K/PA not K/AB. Pretty ridiculous to make any assumptions based on his 13 games played so far this year. His career minor league K rate is about 25%. Not great, but acceptable if he's going to hit for power and walk.

The problem is K-rates that high in the minors generally lead to higher K-rates in the majors. I'm not writing him off, but unless he becomes a 30-40 homer guy, I don't think he's going to have much of a career if he doesn't improve making contact. Hopefully, he is currently just going through a bad stretch and it is not a sign of where he's really at, or this arb clock everyone is worried about is moot.

They also signed Bronson Arroyo for their rotation, instead of letting one of their more talented young starters develop in the rotation.

Great point. If we're okay with Davidson being a ~25% guy in the Majors, we really want to see him get down to at LEAST 20% in AAA.
