Folks, it is inauguration day. Right now I'm watching the inauguration balls. Anderson Cooper is being VERY professional.

What I'm asking is as Americans ... on the first day of the Trump presidency, here is your chance to express your best wishes to our new president and best wishes to our country. We can look back on this thread in four years; eight years. It is your chance to show some class and be a true American.

Let me go first ...

Congratuations Mr. Trump. I wish you the best as President of the United States. May you do your best to uphold the constitution, grant peace and prosperity to all Americans and be a great leader here and around the world.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

And also ... Congratuatlions Mr. Obama. I have no doubt you did your absolute best and I thank you for your hard work and representing the USA in a very classy, professional manner. God bless you and may you attend a lotta White Sox games in the future as you rest and relax!

Because it will be interesting to see this in 4 years, I am going to say the best I can say.

Dear Mr. Trump,

I hope that you are the most successful President in the United States. To be that you do not have to be perfect, but you do need to put America first. Just becoming President should be the prize, your children will be granted access beyond your imagination, they will have a chance to become pseudo-royalty, no matter what anyone may have previously thought, you have made it into the upper echelon of society.

So please for the sake of our country, either divest your ownership or put your companies into a blind trust. Everything else I am willing to give you a chance on, maybe you can fix crime, maybe you can improve the economy, maybe your tax ideas are the best and you can destroy ISIS, bring global peace and usher in a golden era for society. But, most of those goals are not realistic, so all I can really ask is that you do what you believe is best for all of us. And one of the ways that you can convince people that you will do that, is to show that your decisions wont be influenced by whether or not you stand to personally gain.

Good luck, you have just taken on arguably one of the most difficult jobs in history. All you can do is consider what is best for the world, because responsibility to all nations is part of the job description as President of the United States of America.

Mr. Trump:

Ask yourself what is better for American families.

To reverse the loss of seven million blue collar manufacturing jobs or for all American families to pay 25-50% more for their Iphones, typical Wal-Mart purchases and for all high quality imported cars (just a few examples)?

You can't have both cheap prices fo consumers AND protectionism. You can't get both.

In the end, isolationsim and protectionism only will serve to make the world weaker...because countries like Russia and China will quickly fill that vacuum you're creating. All Americans need to ask themselves who should lead the world, if not us?

Finally, the top 20% of the country needs to ask themselves if they're willing to sacrifice so that the bottom 60% can have health insurance. If not, the fabric that unites us will continue to fray until there is nothing left to hold us together...at least until another war comes our way.

We are either a country of carnage or of character and decency. Which force will prevail in the battle for the future?

I'll just leave these two tidbits. That's about all i care to comment on this vile man.

"I moved on her like a b****, but I couldn't get there, and she was married. Then all of a sudden I see her, she's now got the big phony tits and everything." (It's not clear who Drumpf was talking about.)

"I'm automatically attracted to beautiful [women]—I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. Just kiss. I don't even wait. And when you're a star they let you do it. You can do anything ... Grab them by the p****. You can do anything."

also here he is making fun of a disabled reporter:

He never made fun of a disable reporter. That is just the dishonest media.

The p**** grabber is strange. The guy who is being told the story and laughs has his reputation and career ruined. The guy brags about actually doing these things becomes POTUS. It won't take long where just like the people he conned with jobs and prosperity for everyone around his golf course in Scotland, and around the casinos in Gary, the people who voted for him will realize the were taken for fools.

I know a lot of people that want him to fail. Why would anyone want that for a country they live in?

What do I want him to succeed at? Banning Muslims from this country? Creating an army to round up illegal immigrants? Taking away health insurance from people like me and condemning them to death? Building a wall to keep out the brown people? Making himself a fortune? Helping the Russians open up oil drilling? Removing environmental regulations so that my asthma flares up?

Did you honestly ask that same question in January of 2009 when Limbaugh and others were convincing conservatives to say the same about Obama?

LOL. What a joke of a president. 1st press conference and he dedicated time calling the media liars regarding the size of his unimpressive turnout yesterday. He is really going to work hard to fix our problems. Always focusing on the most important things. My god.

I couldn't keep reading after this.

Why? I thought it was a nice point to make. Cooper obviously did not want Trump yet was thoroughly professional in covering the 3 inauguration balls and commentary, etc.

I always wish well for my country. I'm glad I am not full of bitterness. I despise Hillary but I can assure you if she won I wouldn't have ripped her every move. Now in 3.5 years when the next election season came around? If she stunk as Pres of course I'd have renewed venom toward her.

Trump is president. Just as I wished Obama well I wish Trump well. I want my country to get powerful again. I want the economy to grow. He's in charge now.

I think everybody should give a clean slate to Trump, but I realize that's impossible. Even a nice thread like this didn't last but 1-2 posts before turning to Trump disgust.

Whatever. Peace to you all.

You mention Hillary and your hate of her basically in every post.

You expect a much more vile human to get rah-rahs?

1) absolutely no one believes your claim that you wouldn't be whining about Clinton constantly.

2) I want America and Americans to do well. To me, that means trump failing at basically every single part of his stated agenda. If he wins, we lose. He has done nothing to deserve a "clean slate" and everything to demonstrate how unqualified and undeserving he is off the office, and he's already continued to do that today.

Greg, do you not see how many more jobs were created during the Obama and Clinton terms than the Bush (either one) years?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-l...m=.4499e387e234

Reagan did pretty well, but FDR and Clinton will go down as the most successful with Obama not far behind.

Do you really believe tariffs and isolationism will grow the economy and bring back jobs?

Not to mention that trickle down economics (lowering taxes on rich and corporations) has never been proven to be beneficial to anyone but the elites you're always complaining about, as well as multinationals that don't even pay a fair share of taxes in the US to begin with because of offshore tax loopholes written by mostly Republican lobbyists. Do really think Goldman Sachs about anyone in Kansas, other than the Koch Brothers in Wichita?

Greg, since you always get bent out of shape when veterans are disrespected. Here's a whopper.

That was one of the more disconcerting speeches I’ve seen,” said a senior U.S. intelligence official who was not present for the Trump speech but watched it by video. “He could have kept it very simple and said, ‘I’m here to build some bridges.’ But he spent 10 seconds on that and the rest was on the crowd size,” the official said, referring to Trump’s repeated complaints that the media had undercounted the turnout for his inauguration.

Referring to Trump’s use of the CIA memorial wall as a backdrop, the official said, “People are going to think that was offensive."

I told you I'm a Republican yet I voted for Obama last time. I did not vote for Trump or Hillary this time. I also told you I didn't vote for Romney as I didn't like him. I despise Hillary, of course I do. But if she had won I wouldn't have continued the rant until the next presidential race was underway. I am an American. I don't understand those who actively root against the President. If he does well it helps you and me! I would show Obama respect despite the fact I thought he was a lousy President. I thought I was gracious in my initial post on this thread.

one.) That's sad. I am an American first and foremost. Yes I'd complain incessantly about her in 3 years during the next campaign if she had been lousy.

two. He may not deserve a clean slate, but our President deserves a clean slate. Don't you want prosperity?? I do. I want some money.

Here's the thing that I think is lost on trump and a lot of republicans. After a very bitter presidential race, where the person who got the most votes, didn't win, this county needs to heal and be brought together. Only trump can do this. It was the same thing after 2000. Whether it was Bush or 9/11 the country came together rather quickly and moved forward.we don't need to agree on everything, but we need to be civil to each other.

So either trump needs to do something to make this happen, or something will happen to all of us forcing this to happen, or this country will be in a very bad place 4 years from now.

In addition people need to start acting better too. Including the asshole speeding down my sleepy suburban street today, with kids outside playing mind you, in his gigantic pickup truck with trump flags flying and his stereo at max capacity.

Can trump be the "adult in the room" and bring us back together again???
