  1. I think it's very cool. The additional park space is good. That's a lot of additional public space, and I do think a good use of money is to encourage more residences in the loop, which could be a big drag if commercial real estate implodes. I also may be wrong but I'm not seeing the $2.1 billion price tag that the trib reported from tax payers. Part of the public funds is not included in that, that's a phase 3. Again - I think those investments are better than most.
  2. strengthened synergies between museums made me lol.
  3. Fair enough, but there seems to be a weird implication that their coaching across levels wasn't good enough, or wasn't communicating consistent enough. Well, Getz did not overhaul that staff. The turnover was no different than any other year.
  4. That was more his 44 wRC+ than his hilarious defense of the first half of last year.
  5. I don't remember this really being a KW era thing, but he also had such a veteran team the whole time. But that said, Crede, Beckham, Anderson...all were pretty defense forward from the beginning (I recall?).
  6. I just don't believe baseball stupid is it. Marcus Semien appeared baseball stupid here. Omar Narvaez was considered baseball stupid and a terrible defensive catcher, only to have the brewers and mariners work to turn him into a defensive plus catcher before his offense cratered. He's another great example of needing way better offense than expected to stick, but the team doing nothing to make them more well rounded, just ditching them. I could definitely buy that the Cardinals scout for defense much better than the white sox. But then I also see how they reacted with horror at how bad Jordan Walker was at defense last year in the outfield, and put a full court press on to improve it and he did. He is capable of it because he's young and a good athlete, and no I don't think the cardinals could turn Gavin Sheets into that. But for all the rest of the guys ... the white sox think that you develop by playing a lot of ball games. But that thesis has failed man. That's not enough, especially when you have so rid yourself of any players who know how to do it differently. Sorry - Jimmy rollins came in and the damn house of cards nearly fell apart.
  7. I remember, specifically, so probably wrongly, as TA was coming up we had a lot of comments like "he seemed really teachable" as we knew he was so raw but was making a lot of progress at each level. Turns out he was just extremely athletic and talented and able to use his fast hands to get to anything. And then fast forward and someone interviewed and he was basically like "we just played games until I got to majors." ANd didn't really remembered being coached much to that point.
  8. Pretty much every fringe guy we have is asked to come up and rake, because they will be an absolute negative in every other aspect. And then you break down the hitting and they'll have to absolutely rake by making an insane amount of contact or power, because they come up with no discipline, no concept of pitch selection. They swing a lot in the zone, they swing a lot out of the zone, they swing a lot. They are all just different flavors of danny palka, except many without the power. We've seen the As put out horrendous payrolls, we saw the year the padres played like 5 rule 5 selections for half the year. None were as bad as this team is. The guy in charge, was the guy in charge for getting players ready for the bigs. He may have not been given the talent to be a normal bad team, but I think any other GM from a normal team could have avoided "worst offense in history, even when offenses were bad because they were fighting off symptoms of syphilis and extreme dehydration"
  9. I dont think price tag is necessary to even build what was built, imo. This stadium will be really nice. I would like to point out that outside of specifically soldier field, which they mistakenly retrofit into the columns, most of the recent park builds and public construction has been great. The river front if wonderful. Maggie daley park is a gem. Northerly island is great, but sucks to get to. Completely private, but the salt shed has been a huge success and is awesome. I don't know if they'll get the revenue they asked, but I'm pretty confident that what gets build there will be pretty great.
  10. There have been settlements between teams where they agree to compensation in lieu of punishment. That could happen here if the falcons think it would be a lighter punishment (swapping 8 with 11) than what nfl will hand out.
  11. It’s annoying because when these guys come up so much relies on them hitting immediately because they are complete deadweight otherwise. Complete negative players that have to hit 120 wRC* to be above average.
  12. I think the falcons may get punished more than the vikings "compensated"
  13. Sunday I get to see the soxtwitter videos of Lenyn Sosa pop-up, another embarrassing rundown where we say "it looks like they've never played baseball before!" Before we get too far - Lenyn getting where he has today is an incredible accomplishment. He may not be very good, but he was a modest bonus signing that has made it to the big leagues on the strength of his hitting progression. He is by far the best signing of that class, which was highlighted by Josue Guerrero. Anyway. Sosa signed in July 2 of 2016. Getz took over the following offseason as our Director of Player Dev, and Sosa appeared stateside in Arizona, where he stood out as perhaps the first international signing in like half a decade to not be completely miserable at the plate. He had no power, but he wasn't striking out 60% of the time. He then spent 5.5 years, slowly climbing the organization. He mostly survived as a young player in older leagues, before breaking out in AA as a 22 year old where he suddenly found power. He was promptly called up where we all learned that power was all you can really find in the white sox org. You find Power, you find velocity. Everything else? they are unfindable. A player for 5.5 years in Chris Getz teachings arrives, where we can see what it's like for someone to be taught the way JR always wanted. The result? Someone who appears underprepared at the plate, on the field, and on the basepaths. He goes back and forth between AAA and the big leagues, and it is all the same. Lenyn Sosa arrived a reported 6'0 and 180 lbs, and stands today at 6'0 and 180 lbs. That's true and also a good metaphor. Despite 615 games since he arrived in Chris Getz teaching, he has very little learned. I think about this when I read Colson Montgomery reports. The most alien like figure I"ve ever seen arrive in this org. Truly the opposite traits of like every other player. And we see "he'll need to develop if he wants to stay at short". Well, I'd say lets just hope he survives at 3rd.
