Giolito hit the wall big time in his start

He admitted to having struggles maintaining his new mechanics the deeper he goes into games. The good news is his pitching line through the first five innings (against a strong lineup) was good and the velocity seemed a bit better. The reality is this a process that's going to take a while, so any signs of progress along the way should be viewed as positives.

At least Giolito's K numbers were good until he fell apart in the 6th.

And yeah, that Birmingham line-up is painful to look at. The only one hitting is Rondon, and NOBODY expects him to be much more than a Leury Garcia-ish 25th man/defensive specialist were he ever to make it to the majors.

What's the argument against moving up Adams to AAA?

I get the sense he's now projected more as a 3-4 starter?

I'd love to be wrong, but I don't see him as anything more than a #5 type unless he starts missing more bats. The 11.3% K% he posted in AA last year would be unplayable in the majors.

So what I gather from Giolito is that he gets tired easily?

That was his first time into the 6th inning this year so he still is probably getting stretched out. As others have said, he's definitely a work in progress at this point but there were a lot of positives to come out of yesterday's start.

Some posters are too infatuated with strikeouts. I guarantee if Giolito had 10 K's instead of 8, we wouldn't be hearing nearly as much regardless of the 3 runs he gave up.

I'd argue he wasn't even ready for AA yet, let alone AAA. Kid turned 21 years old on his first start of the year, and he wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire in High-A last year. He's being moved too quickly IMO.

Also, as I've noted in the past year or so and others have hinted, the Adams of 2016 is not a major league starter. But there is still plenty of potential there, particularly if he can get his 4S velocity back to the mid-90's and get more consistency with the slider.

not sure which thread to say it in, but adam eaton has been awesome so far

Yeah I looked yesterday since my buddy (who has Harper on his fantasy team) feels the need to tell me every time he hits a homer. So I kinda figured Eaton has a lot of runs scored already on the season and checking his stats, I am correct. It's comical how one-sided the media and fans of other teams said that deal was. OBP is .429 and he's scored 14 runs already for them in 14 games. Does he belong in a corner spot? Yes and he likely will be next year since Werth's contract expires this season.
