Baseball is extremely profitable now, but not as popular (nationally) as it was in the 1950's and 60's. Which is more important to the long-term growth of the game? How much more can the World Series tv ratings dip before it becomes a more serious concern? It's hard to imagine the Cubs winning their first World Series in centuries in Tokyo or Mexico City. The #1 marketing concern right now for MLB should be getting rid of the blackout rules. i totally agree with this. ummm.... baseball should be a home town fan connection hype to that team enjoyment pleasure. the only major sport who has a neutral site is football and i think it is stupid. here is the question: which sport have the most fans in the playoff. second, baseball is the best of 7..... are they expecting fans to stick around at a neutral site, the cost will kill the fans. even basketball is a series and it too is a best of 7. The only sport that has its finals in a neutral location is football and a good reason for that is because it's only one game. The season (less games), playoffs (first round best-of-7 instead of 5) and World Series (games starting earlier so people are awake to watch them end) need a bunch of improvements, but a neutral site WS isn't one of them. knightni Posted January 28, 2015 Share Posted January 28, 2015 I always had the idea that the Wild Card round should be a best out of 3. One game at the home stadium of each team. Then, if it goes to 3 games, the deciding game should be at a neutral site (the stadium of the #1 seed). This makes it more balanced and fair. The problem of doing this, is more of a money issue than anything though. Teams/cities won't want to play on a neutral field, and fans may not go to the game at the neutral site. With TV and internet, it doesn't matter where the World Series is, it is still present in your life if you want to be. I agree we need to market the World Series as more an of event to build the game of baseball, but you don't need a neutral sight to do that. I completely agree about stopping the WS from going into November. But I take the opposite side on tightening up the season vs. the postseason. I think the biggest momentum killer is clinching your division in August and then just waiting around forever for the playoffs, which could be over in three games. 90+ win teams deserve more of a buffer in the early part of the playoffs that a best-of-5 just doesn't provide. That year a few years ago was cool when the regular season ended on Wednesday night. Then Game 7 of the World Series exactly 4 weeks from the end of the regular season. Baseball for 30 weeks is good enough. Opening Day- Final Day- WS Game 7 March 29-September 26-October 24 March 30-September 27-October 25 March 31-September 28-October 26 April 1- September 29-October 27 April 2-September 30-October 28 April 3-October 1-October 29 April 4-October 2-October 30 I'd rather have regular season games in March than World Series games on Halloween or later. I would love to see a warm weather (or domed) WS; nobody like to play in 50 degree (or lower) weather. The play would be much better in a warmer climate.
