wRC+ is not a tool designed for evaluating the performance of 17 year olds. I know everyone here hates Avisail Garcia and never wants to say anything nice about him, but when the Sox acquired him there was legit reason to be excited. He had a very impressive season swinging the bat as a 20 year old in A+/AA and even before then he displayed more than just a knack for hitting as a a teenager. Fangraphs has its merits but god it turns into mind poison sometimes, just another way for people to confirm what they already want to believe by digging through a bunch of statistics and finding one they dont like from some kids age 17 season in low-A ball to say "LOOK HE SUCKED ALL ALONG".

Re: Willy.
Is our outfield the worst in baseball history? Just asking. Our infield could be one of the most productive offensively in team history. Abreu, Moncada, Anderson, Frazier. Are we even going to try to put anybody in the outfield who is MLB caliber? And catcher is disgracefully bad. Might as well put Saladino out there in center just to let him have 500 at bats.
I still say if we kept Q we potentially have a playoff rotation and with Robertson and Nate, on paper, we have a playoff bullpen. We're just horrid in OF, catcher and DH.

Are the Sox still gonna trade everybody?? The way it stands today, this rebuild is barely off the ground. We're closer to contending (at this time) than rebuilding. Now trade Q and Nate and Robertson and Frazier and Melky that's a different story.

p.s. Why not trade a prospect or two for Alex Gordon and sign Cespedes? Wouldn't we be favored in the Central?

Greg, were you swarmed over by fast zombies or at least brain-eating worms last night in Kansas?

There has to be some explanation.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 12:24 PM) *
I don't expect Coats to be anything special.

That said, I do find it annoying that his "shot" in the Majors was 58 plate appearances, and many on this board think that's enough to make a decision on him. Didn't Bregman begin his MLB career 0-34? And, my favorite example:

Mike Trout's first 60 career PAs: .185/.250/.352
Jason Coats' first 58 career PAs: .200/.298/.340

When you have a world class prospect, you look at them differently than you do prospects who have never sniffed the top 100 in baseball. While the once in a lifetime Mike Piazza story does happen, I think our calibration might be off a little since we have had NO good prospects. With respect to Coats, up until we acquired REAL prospects, being on OUR top 10 list says very little about a player's potential success. Certainly wish him the best in his quest.

This bottom 3 has got the AL Central opposition knees buckling already. I can smell the fear from my desk as we speak!
