Went to HS with 30th Round pick Pat Cashman's brother at Plainfield North. Good kid with a great family. Told me our 4th rounder Jameson fisher is one of the most impressive ball players he's seen. Has a chance to move through the system.

I played with his brother in college lol.

Coach Heberling ‏@CoachHeberling Jun 11

Congratulations to @ImJaxonn on being selected in the 34th round by the White Sox. They got one heck of a ball player!

This is about 34th rounder and INF Jaxon Shirley. Any indication that he might sign?

Very solid draft overall for the White Sox. Collins, Burdi, and Hansen all very good day 1 picks. Call should be underslot in the 3rd. Jameson Fisher was a top 75ish type guy on most boards. H can really hit and get on base. Jimmy Lambert in round 5 should be an underslot as well. Luis Curbelo is a HS SS from Miami. He is going to cost some $$ but they would not have taken him where they did if he wasn't signing. Saved some $$ in round 7-10. Ian Hamilton from Washington State might be value in round 11. He's a bullpen guy but BA had him 221 on their top 500. I would imagine that Michael Hickman signs this time around after spending a year at JUCO. Some interesting HS names in the 30's and I expect most of them to be unsignable.

Not official but Sox expect Curbelo to sign today and Burdi by the end of the week. Collins will be signed once Miami's NCAA WS run ends.

raBBit - Assuming Collins signing goes as planned; what is a REALISTIC timetable for him?

You didn't ask me but if they honestly are planning on having him catch, I would think sometime during the 2018 season.

Lane Hobbs, 18th round pick, was a D3 pitcher of the year.

http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=12573

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Year: Lane Hobbs, Concordia (TX)

In 11 of the games junior Lane Hobbs started, he pitched a complete game in nine of them. In his two relief appearances he earned a save in one and he threw a scoreless inning of relief against eventual national champion Trinity in the other. In total the Thrall, Texas product threw 82 innings and only allowed 53 hits for a .180 opposing team batting average. 92 batters were victim of a Hobbs’ strikeout and only 15 were awarded first base via a walk. For the season he had 10-1 record with a 1.43 ERA. Hobbs was named the American Southwest Conference Pitcher of the Year and was named the West Region Pitcher of the Year by both ABCA/Rawlings and D3Baseball.com as well.

Great stuff. Hamilton could be one of the fast risers in the bullpen.

Definitely grabbed some interesting catching prospects.

Hamilton will be coming fast if they leave him in the bullpen which it sounds like is the plan.

Here's the snippet from mlb.com on Hamilton

Scouting Grades: Fastball: 50 | Curveball: 45 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 45 | Overall: 45

Hamilton had built a reputation as one of the better college closers in the game, collecting 28 saves over his first two seasons at Washington State and pitching extremely well out of the bullpen in the Cape Cod League last summer. When moved into the rotation for his junior year, though, his stuff backed up and knocked him down several pegs on Draft boards everywhere.

When pitching in shorter stints, he would crank his fastball up into the 94-97 mph range consistently. His very good changeup would play off of that, and he lived largely off of that two-pitch mix. As a starter, Hamilton has been very vanilla, largely pitching with an 89-91 mph fastball and trying to use his fringy breaking ball more frequently. He's moved around to various spots in Washington State's weekend rotation as a result.

Any team considering taking Hamilton in the top five rounds will be doing so based on his track record and success on the Cape. A return to a bullpen could allow him to move fairly quickly through a system as well.

Out of the MLB.com top 200, the White Sox drafted 6 guys: Zack Collins (14), Zach BUrdi (41), Alec Hansen (62), Jameson Fisher (75), Luis Curbelo (104), and Ian Hamilton (187)

They also drafted 12 guys from the Baseball America Top 500: Collins (16), Burdi (21), Hansen (37), Fisher (64), Curbelo (99), Hamilton (221), Call (266), Flores (312), Nolan (410), Elliot (478), Lambert (479), and Booker (492).

I'm guessing they'll get great overall reviews from Baseball America.

Referring to both Burdi and Hamilton.

221 isn't that high. If he has a great shot at the majors as a reliever but other position players in that area don't then yes I think Hamilton is the better prospect. I don't like taking relievers in the 1st round, even ones as awesome as Zach Burdi but at a certain point they do become underrated. Getting a guys like Hamilton in the 11th is a greta pick. You just throw him 1 inning at a time, his stuff plays up, and moves extremely quick. I get it.

Sox had 7 of the first 200 picks and 17 of the first 500 picks.

Reliever in the 11th round - agree it's great.

Reliever in round 1 - the essence of the problem with this front office.

But he's a good player.

If they can sign all of these guys, it should be a productive draft.

It's unrealistic to take the best player in every round though. You know that.

See my note in round 1 thread. Hostetler said most of their scouts think he can start. They'll decide next offseason whether to stretch him out

I don't think I necessarily agree. If we are taking less than our share of the top 200 or 500 that means somebody is getting more than their share. If they can do it, why can't we?
