What to cheer for since we are in a rebuild

We aren't going to be competitive so it is important for us as fans to still enjoy baseball. So cheering for the farm system and rankings of players is first. But after that who do we cheer for or support to keep our sanity during these dark few years? Do we just cheer for everyone but the Cubs? Do we find a specific team to get behind and support?

Root for the rest of the AL Central to fall apart.

Pick an NL team, rookie or favorite player...rotisserie league, suscribe to mlbtv or extra innings and scout all the teams.

Cheer for Robertson, Jones, Swarzak, Putnam, Petricka...Pelfrey/Holland/MiGo/Shields...and pretty much every young player on the roster to excel or be traded. Wait with excitement for Moncada, Burdi, Fulmer, Lopez and Giolito.

Follow the minors and draft.

Hope that Melky and Frazier get traded sooner rather than later.

Follow the progress of Q and Rodon obsessively.

Be happy for Avi, Davidson, Leury, Kahnle, Yolmer, Omar, Willy Garcia, Danish, Kevan Smith, Engel, Ynoa, etc.

Fantasize about 2018-19 free agent class, Shohei Otani, Victor Mesa, etc.

Great assessment here. I appreciate the work you put in. I acgtually would rather see the Indians win it than the Yankees or Red Sox. I also want the Nationals to get real close so they make a trade for Q and Robertson. As far as NL go I have no choice but to hate on the Cubs, I couldn't bear going to work for 4 months after they won. I need them to to choke this year, but they are guaranteed a playoff spot since their division sucks.

The major league team is competitive against most teams and interesting to watch. Cheer for them.

Yeah but I'm torn because we were cheering for losses before. I don't think they will compete much to be honest when it's all said and done record wise. In that case draft positioning becomes important.

Lucky for me I find baseball the most watchable of all the major sports, so I can watch any games that are on and I root for several teams without getting to worked up.

Living in Los Angeles I can root for the Dodgers. My wife is a Yankees fan and we've lived in New York so I know I'm not supposed to but I do root for the Yankees. Also I go by my Dad's principle that he taught me: "We root for two teams, the White Sox, and who's ever playing the Cubs.

This helps me get through the White Sox down years and I'm actually excited as to where they are headed.

Root for development of the young ML players and top prospects which will (hopefully) make up the core of the next successful White Sox team. Root for good decisions in the front office, like smart trades, successful drafting, and smart spending in the international markets. Hopefully some of these ML average or above average players (or hot hands like Holland) on the roster can return some quality prospects to add to the core and raise the overall talent level in the org, and hopefully they'll lose enough to have high draft position (top 5 or better, preferably #1 overall) to add quality that way as well as spending some of the surplus they'll get on the international market, i.e. signing Otani. Finally, root for the team to really push into "go for it" mode when the star studded 2018 FA class happens, my hope being they'll sign Machado to be the face of the franchise and really kickstart things in the right direction, plus he's still young, so it's not just a "win now" signing. I think surrounding the young talent the team will have in 2019 and beyond with Machado, Abreu, and possibly Quintana will provide the veteran leadership the young core needs to rally around and really (hopefully) become a successful franchise for a very long run.

4 games under and +23 runs with several youngish guys (Avi, Sanchez, Garcia) having great years is pretty much a best case outcome so far. Other than the Rodon injury and Frazier's swing I don't have anything to b**** about on the MLB club.

Assuming Mesa comes out, can the Sox even go after him?? Would it simply be another case where they would have to pay double, or is he past an age cutoff where he would simply be a free agent like Abreu?

Good question, I'd like to know as well. I think we should adopt a team as a board and follow their progress together. I think I want to root for the Nationals because they are fun and we continue to try and do business with them. If only Eaton didn't go down. I would cheer for the Dogers but they pissed me off last year choking against the Cubs.

For me, it's the same as always. I want them to win every game I'm watching. It's just easier to shrug off the losses and harder to get excited for the win streaks.

Pay more attention to the minor leagues. You can watch all the games now via milb.tv if you want. I'm biased because I work in the minors -- but the games at the full season level are just as exciting. The crowd is smaller but typically more engaged. The world doesn't care about their championships, but the players absolutely do.

I go by that same principal. It's not that I hate the cubs, I just like every other team more than the cubs. :D

I'm a White Sox fan, I want them to win no matter what. If they lose, and move for more young specs that's OK too. All told, I am enjoying this season.

I love the win no matter what guys! Put me in that category. There's you, me, El Rockin, Eminor3 who else? Just.Win.Baby.

The tanking thing has gotten old. We are well beyond that and with almost a third of the season gone, it looks like the Sox can stay around .500 and play good entertaining baseball to attract fans and provide the team with revenue.

I have a few acquaintances who are cubz fans. They are crapping their pants because the team is only playing .500 and looking very beatable.

There is a positive vibe among Sox fans right now, like we are looking ahead with hope while cubs fans are looking ahead with apprehension and perhaps even fear of starting another epic WS drought.

I'm okay cheering for a win as the whole organization has found the right direction now.
