Question for me because might as well:

 

After getting tackled while in the air, landed hard on my back and had a massive muscle contusion in my right lower back. It healed but still gets tight when I go for runs. Anyway to loosen it?

As near as I can tell from the videos and info, there was no nerve damae or displacement of the fracture. If this isthe case, it should be a 6 to 8 week recovery. The possi le complication that osteophytes form to blo k any motion or impinge the nerve s. I didn't see any info on which part of the vertebrae was fractured. This could make a difference as well.

Lay on your back and pull your knees to your chest. Then straighten out your right leg and rotate your hips to the left to touch your right leg to the ground. Do the same to the right for the left leg. These will stretch the spine flexors and rotators.

Also stand against against a wall and put a tennis ball between the wall and the area that is sore. Squat up and down a little to massage the area.

When I jog I sometimes get soreness on both knees. On my left knee, the soreness is on the right side; on the right knee, the soreness is on the left side. It's almost like it's on the bone, like a bruise. I don't get the pain when I walk at a brisk pace.

 

Should I ice my knees? I'd like to up my distance running but with this soreness I don't want to do something stupid and get hurt. My broken foot finally healed and I got the OK to work out again about 3 weeks ago and I've been enjoying walking and jogging except for the knee soreness.

Ok, here is an odd one ptatc. I have a strange soreness in and around my left collarbone. I get pains when I turn a certain way, but it isn't more than a muscle pull type pain. Nothing sharp or jarring, no weakness in my left arm or side as a result, it is just annoying

 

I can't think of something I did to cause it, just woke up with it one day a few weeks ago

Is the pain at the end of the collar near the shoulder or near your neck?

As near as I can tell, most of the damage was done above the ankle. It was also an eversion type injury for the direction. These factors bode well for recovery. It's difficult to tell from the videos but the key will be if any of the muscles or nerves were involved. From reports it doesn't sound like it. This will be closeto a year beforehe is ready to go due to both bones being involved and soft tissue repair. The return of ankle mobility will determine if he has any limitations when he returns.

I can feel it when i do rotational movement of my shoulder, when i turn my head. The closest thing I can compare it to is the feeling you have when you want to crack your knuckle or need your back cracked, accompanied by a fatigued soreness

 

And since I play softball, it is my non-throwing shoulder

If it's right at the base of your neck, it's a sternoclavicular (SC) disc impingement. The clavicle meets your breastbone and there is a biconcave disc that is in between the two. It's a complicated movement and can cause the "sticking" sensation where it feels it needs to pop. The reason it hurts when you turn your head is that the sternocleidomastoid muscle is attached there.

 

The difficulty is that it's a highly mobile disc that needs to move for the SC to function properly. First try pushing straight back on the close end of the clavicle. See if there is a click or pop. this can sometimes "re-align" the disc. If it doesn't make a noise but relieves the "pain", you should do this a few times a day for about 10 reps. If it doesn't change, check the position of the clavicle to the other side. See if one feels or looks higher than the other. You cansublux the joint. If so, you may need to push down on the joint in the same sequence as stated earlier.

 

If neither helps it is probably just inflammed. A 10 day course of 3 ibuprofen 2x/day will help.

Near the kneecap. Also the area at the bottom of the tibia gets tight sometimes when jogging. It almost feels like it's going to snap. Is that a stretching issue?

I have a pain right under my left kneecap. It hurts after playing volleyball (which I've stopped) and if it's bent for extended periods of time. Then it aches. I think it's tendonitis...but I'm not sure what to do about it since I've been resting it for months. It is not swollen, so I don't think there's any physical damage, so any help would be great.

Sounds more like patella femoral pain syndrome. Put your hand on the very top of your knee cap and push it down toward your ankle. Once it is in this position try to tighten your quad. Your hand should be resisting the knee cap from coming back up. How did that feel?

There two things it could be. The is a piece of capsule called a plica that can get caught under the patella to make it feel like it wants to snap. To determine this feels where its gets sore and is there a palpable mass there. If so you need to massage on the area a couple of times per day to decrease the inflammation.

 

Most likely it is a patella femoral dysfunction. This is where the knee cap is riding too far inward which is why you get the pain on the inside of each knee. To decrease this problem you need to watch your form when running and do a few exercises.

 

When jogging be sure to keep your knees over feet. Some people will bring their knees inward in a knock kneed direction. This puts a great deal of added stress in the area.

 

The exercises are wall squats with your knees staying over your feet. Lean your back against a wall. Slide down so your knees bend but not to the point of any pain. Keep your knees in line with your feet and hold a position for 10 secs. Do 10 or so 2x/day.

 

The others are clam exercises. Lay on one side with your knees bent 1/2 way. Get either a rubber band or ankle weight and put it around your leg just above the knee Keep your feet together and lift the top knee away from the other. This will be like pivoting with your hip and ankles with the knee raising up. Do 15-20 on each side daily.

 

This will help to re-train the muscles to have the knee cap track properly.

No. The swelling will inhibit normal muscle function. Just keep working on the range until the swelling is down.

Another jogging mishap. Hopefully minor.

My shin and foot felt fine yesterday, however, felt a tinge in my hamstring near the end of a great speed walk with some jogging and sprints at the end. I stopped immediately and iced it. Today the hammy is a bit sore, just enough to know I did something and almost did something bad.

 

I'm not limping. It's just a bit sore back there. Happened Friday. Do I walk again Monday after resting it? Do I stretch?
