at this point the Cards wouldn't surprise me at all. Like most have said...just how the hell a contender passed on him is mind boggling. It's not like he has this massive contract...

$5.9 Million. Call it a Mil a month. Free Agent after this year.

Gonzalez just isn't very good. His last 2 starts have been effective, but the K rates are low (as they have been all season), suggesting lack of sustainability. Other than that, pretty miserable season.

Maybe he's a little better than some of the guys a team like Seattle is using to patch a rotation. We'll see.

He's hot at the right time, is there any rumored interest?

trying to find where i read it...but I briefly saw the Marlins may have interest with the latest creep back into the WC race. Trying to find it...

The only thing I see is an article saying they SHOULD target him.

Wishful thinking, but if Liriano could net Teoscar Hernandez, then maybe Gonzalez could get something similar. He has less control but has been worth more WAR than Liriano.

He was also traded a month ago, which is more important. We are talking about 5-6 weeks worth of control at this point, when no one would even claim him for just his salary alone.

Amazing that some team hasn't grabbed him, at worst case, as a long reliever, 5th starter for down the stretch. Sox would probably give him away if it saved them some minor cost savings over the last month.

At this point, I don't see the value of moving him. There's not enough to warrant any good team having interest.

Maybe on the 31st since that's when a lot of August deals happen due to rosters expanding next day. Move him for whatever and re-sign him to hold down the 5th spot next year.

I believe postseason rosters have to be set prior to August 31st, so if he is moved, I would expect it on or by 8/30.

How much would the Sox have to commit to a qualifying offer? That might make sense, if no team steps up to offer a worthwhile prospect.

It wouldn't be such a bad idea to sign him to a one year contract. Someone has to start, until the Sox are ready to bring up Kopech, and Hansen to join Rodon, Giolito,

Lopez and Shields. At that point, next season, providing he is still performing, maybe they can deal him at the next trade deadline.

Will be upwards of $18 million.

Wow, really? I'm surprised that it would require that much. That hurts. Maybe a qualifying offer isn't such a good idea, after all. I wonder if that isn't negatively affecting

any current trade negotiations.
