We've got some historic audio AND video for Tuesday, April 5th in our This Date In Sox History thread.

First off is an audio cut from April 5, 1974. The streaking craze has hit America and Comiskey Park was no exception. On a cold opening day against the Angels some strange things took place. Announcers: Harry Caray and Bill Mercer. Courtesy: WMAQ Radio.

Then further down the thread you can see the video and hear the call of one of the most remarkable fielding plays you'll ever see from April 5, 2010. Mark Buehrle and Paul Konerko turned the trick. Announcers: Ken "Hawk" Harrelson and Steve Stone. Courtesy: Comcast Sports Chicago.

Have a lot on the plate for April 7th in our This Date In Sox History page at Sox Net, but of particular interest might be this audio AND video from 1994 when a certain basketball player cranked out the biggest hit in that years "Crosstown Classic" game. Announcer is Harry Caray. Courtesy: WGN-TV.

Audio / video is towards the bottom of the page.

A double header worth of historic audio for April 9th.

First off we've got audio from April 9, 1976, the Sox home opener. Bill Veeck was back, it was the Bicentennial and the Sox shut out the Royals. Jim Spencer had the big blow with a two run home run and the crowd was simply wild about Harry! Announcer: Harry Caray. Courtesy: WMAQ Radio.

Then we've got the final out from the last home opener at the original Comiskey Park, April 9, 1990 a Sox 2-1 win over Milwaukee. Announcer: Jim Durham. Courtesy: WGN-TV.

Both items can be found at this link:

For April 10 we've got one of the most dramatic moments in franchise history both audio AND video. It was Opening Day 1981 in Boston and Carlton Fisk returned only wearing a different uniform. He would immediately make the Red Sox pay for his contract debacle late in the game. Announcers: Harry Caray and Jimmy Piersall. Courtesy: WGN-TV.

Yup, once upon a time HE was OUR announcer on THAT station. And then HE wasn't. Thank you, Jerry. Thank you, Eddie. Brilliant move.

Have three items for April 18 for your enjoyment.

First off we go to April 18, 1994. Tim "Rock" Raines hits three home runs in the game against the Red Sox in Boston as the Sox cruised to a 12-1 win. Announcers: Sean McDonough for the first two home runs and Ken "Hawk" Harrelson. Courtesy: NESN and SportsChannel-Chicago.

The second item is the audio AND video of all 27 outs in Mark Buehrle's no-hitter from April 18, 2007. The Sox beat Texas 6-0. Announcers: Ken "Hawk" Harrelson and Darrin Jackson. Courtesy: Comcast Sports Chicago.

Finally we've got the audio from Mark's postgame where he talked to Comcast Sports Chicago's Josh Mora about throwing a no-hitter.

All three items can be found here: http://www.chicagonow.com/soxnet/2016/04/t...rles-no-hitter/

For April 21 we've got a real gem courtesy of Phillip Humber as on this date in 2012 all he did was throw a perfect game against the Mariners in Seattle. We've got the audio AND video of his 27 outs as he pulled off the rarest feat a pitcher can do in major league baseball.

Announcer: Dave Sims. Courtesy: Fox Sports.

April 22 is one of the wildest, craziest days in White Sox history, from total strangeness over the years in Kansas City to fights on the field. There's also the audio from April 22, 1991 as Frank Thomas unloaded the first White Sox home run at 'new' Comiskey Park. It came off Ben McDonald of the Orioles and helped the Sox win the game 8-7. Announcers: Ken "Hawk" Harrelson and Tom Paciorek. Courtesy: SportsChannel-Chicago.

Now another item out of my library. In fact it’s the oldest recording that I have of the White Sox. It’s May 16, 1953. The place is Yankee Stadium and Tommy Byrne, a pitcher, is coming up to bat as a pinch hitter in a game situation.

What happened is the only time something like this has happened in the history of the White Sox franchise. Announcer: Bob Elson. Courtesy: WCFL Radio.

Ten years ago May 20, 2005. The "Punch A.J." moment. You know it, you love it as the Sox blew out the Cubs 7-0. It was quite the afternoon. We've got the audio AND video for you right here. Announcers: Thom Brennaman and Darrin Jackson. Courtesy: Fox Sports.

With a nod to the narrator from ESPN's 30 for 30 series..."What if I told you a no-hitter was lost not by a player, not by an umpire but by an official scorer?"

It's May 26, 1976, newly acquired Ken Brett is looking to make history in Anaheim, the Sox are looking for their 10th straight win. Announcers are Harry Caray and Lorn Brown. Courtesy: WMAQ Radio.

There once was a time when the White Sox were an exciting team with a revived enthusiastic fan base and some of the best players in the league.

Now isn't one of those times but that was the case on June 4, 1972 before over 52 thousand at Comiskey Park. It will be forever known as "the Chili Dog Game". Cue Dick Allen in the bottom of the 9th inning with the Sox down two runs and looking to sweep a double header from the Yankees.

On a side note, I was sitting in the lower deck right center field when this took place. Still an amazing moment.

Announcers: Future Sox broadcaster Frank Messer and Phil Rizzuto. (Rizzuto's reaction was priceless!!!!) Courtesy: WMCA / Yankees Radio Network

23 years ago, June 22, 1993 Carlton Fisk Night was celebrated at Comiskey Park II. It was the night Fisk's passed Bob Boone's record for most games caught in a big league career.

The crowd went wild when Bo Jackson drove a motorcycle in from center field to present to Pudge at home plate and then Fisk spoke to the fans acknowledging his night.

Halfway down this page you can hear some of the audio of that speech:

1990 was a magical, amazing season for the White Sox. The team, picked for last, shocked the baseball world by winning 94 games. And the way they won some games left you realizing the "baseball gods" were smiling on the team. They won a game when a ball thrown hit Ron Kittle on the hip off first base and bounced away. They won when Lance McCullers of the Yankees threw a wild pitch with Lance Johnson on third, they won when Carlton Fisk was hit in the middle of his back by a curve ball which forced in a run...but without question the most bizarre way to win came on July 1, 1990.

It was the 80th anniversary of the opening of Comiskey Park. The Yankees Andy Hawkins tossed a no-hitter...AND LOST THE GAME!

The Sox won 4-0 as Yankee outfielders dropped two fly balls in the eight inning to score all four runs.

Unbelievable.

Here is the audio of the first error, the big one as Robin Ventura's fly ball with the bases loaded was booted by Jim Leyritz a third baseman playing left field.

1977 was another magical season, the "South Side Hitmen" were in the full flower of their ability, hammering and bashing baseball's to the farthest distances of stadiums around the league.

Jim Spencer had already had a memorable game on May 14 when he drove in eight RBI's as the Sox blitzed Cleveland 18-2 in a game that started at 10:30 in the morning.

Spencer liked that so much he decided to do it again.

It's July 2, 1977, the Sox are on their way to a four game sweep of the Twins and taking first place in the division. This Saturday game was won by the Sox 13-8. Spencer would drive in eight RBI's again becoming the only Sox player to do that twice let alone in the same year.

Jim had a grand slam, a three run homer and an RBI hit.

This is the grand slam off Minnesota's Bill Butler. It came in the fourth inning and was the Sox first hit of the afternoon.

It still is the longest game ever played at U.S. Cellular Field. It's July 9, 2006 and the white hot White Sox are taking on Boston.

Tadahito Iguchi’s single in the last of the 19th inning gave the White Sox a dramatic 6-5 win in this one.

Jermaine Dye’s two out, ninth inning home run tied the game at three. Both teams scored two runs in the 11th and the score stayed that way until the 19th.

The game took 6:19 minutes. It also appeared to take something out of the World Champions...the White Sox weren’t the same the rest of the season.

A little out of sequence chronologically and I apologize...

July 7, 1982. It was the coming out party for Sox outfielder Harold Baines. In a game in Chicago against the Tigers, Baines blasted three home runs in the Sox 7-0 win. One of his blasts was a grand slam. He’d drive in six of the Sox seven runs.

Later that week at Toronto in a 16-7 win, he’d hammer two more home runs including a second grand slam and knock in five more RBI’s. No wonder he was named A.L. Player of the Week!

Announcers are Early Wynn, Joe McConnell, Ken "Hawk" Harrelson and Don Drysdale. Courtesy: WFLD-TV.

Two items can be found for July 12 we've got both audio AND video.

The first item that has video is a recap of the events from July 12, 1979 - the infamous "Disco Demolition" night at Comiskey Park. It's courtesy of ESPN. Also tied to that item are comments from my interviews with Sox pitcher Donn Pall who was there and Mike Veeck, Bill's son was staged the promotion.

The other item from the same link further down the page, is audio from the Home Run hitting contest from July 11-12, 1994 connected with the All Star Game from Pittsburgh. Frank Thomas hit some of the longest shots ever seen reaching the upper, upper deck at Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium. Again it's from ESPN with Chris Berman and Joe Morgan announcing:

July 23, 2009 It had only happened 17 times before. On this date the Sox Mark Buehrle became the 18th pitcher to ever throw a perfect game when he shut down Tampa 5-0. Buehrle was helped in the top of the ninth inning when Dewayne Wise, an otherwise mediocre player, made the catch of his career, leaping above the wall in left center to snare a ball hit by Gabe Kapler. On the way down he started to lose the ball then snatched it out of the air with his other hand. Buehrle completed the task in 2:03, the exact same amount of time as his no hitter in 2007. He became only the fourth pitcher to ever throw a perfect game and a no hitter joining Cy Young, Sandy Koufax and Randy Johnson.

We've got the audio AND video of Wise's catch and the final out of the gem. Announcers are Ken "Hawk" Harrelson and Steve Stone. Courtesy: Comcast Sports Chicago.

July 31st was a historic day for a number of reasons in White Sox history some were memorable. Some fans are still trying to forget (the White Flag Trade). Among all the events were three that we’ve been able to get audio of and you can find all of them at this location:

http://www.chicagonow.com/soxnet/2016/07/t...ting-contreras/

Regarding the historic audio we start with July 31, 1972. Dick Allen's first of his two inside the park home runs in the same game at Minnesota. Both were hit off Bert Blyleven. The Sox won 8-1 with Dick driving in five RBI's on the day. His first home run scored Pat Kelly and Luis Alvarado ahead of him. It’s something that has rarely happened in baseball history. And listen for the sound made when Allen connected with the pitch. When Dick hit them square, it was a sound like no other player made.

Announcer: Jack Drees. Courtesy: WFLD-TV.

https://soundcloud.com/soxnet/allen-inside-the-park-hr-1972

Then we move to July 31, 1977. It was the year of the “Southside Hit Men.” Ralph Garr's hit gave the Sox and six and a half game lead over the Twins and Royals, the largest lead that late in a season since 1972. It wouldn't last as Kansas City became unconscious the last two months and won the division but the Sox still went 90- 72 to finish third. It was some summer! Announcer: Lorn Brown. Courtesy: WMAQ Radio. And listen to the capacity crowd at Comiskey Park begin chanting in unison “we’re number one!”

https://soundcloud.com/soxnet/garrs-hit-beats-royals-1977

And finally the moment that made Robin Ventura’s career as a player July 31, 1991. The white hot White Sox capped off a sizzling month with one of the most dramatic moments in team history. The Sox trailed the Rangers 8-6 going into the bottom of the ninth inning. Texas brought in former Sox All Star pitcher Rich "Goose" Gossage to close things out. But the goose got cooked on this night as with two out, Robin Ventura hammered a grand slam into the right field stands winning the game 10-8. A full house, which included noted Cub fan Bill Murray sitting almost behind home plate, went wild as Ventura was bodily lifted off the ground by massive Frank Thomas in a celebration hug at home plate. Announcers: Ken “Hawk” Harrelson and Tom Paciorek. Courtesy: SportsChannel-Chicago.

We go to August 2, 1990. In the first game of a double header first baseman Frank Thomas made his major league debut in Milwaukee. The greatest hitter in franchise history went 0-4 in his first game. The next night Frank narrowly missed a home run in the seventh inning when his line shot hit the top of the wall in right field and went for a triple. It would be his first major league hit. The Sox would sweep five games from the Brewers that weekend.

A bit of trivia; when Thomas came up with the Sox he did not wear #35. His first number was #15. We've got the audio from Thomas' first major league hit. Announcers are Jim Durham and Tom Paciorek. Courtesy: WGN-TV.

The audio clip can be found about halfway down the page. And yes I've already contacted the folks about the headline which is wrong. LaRussa wasn't "canned" on this day...he was hired.
