We are shut down...just means a floating holiday is used (vs. it really being an extra day off). We get 10 holidays and a couple move depending on when the holidays actually fall. My wife and most everyone I know don't get it off though.

Same for us.

Got a bonus half day Friday because everyone just decided not to come back from lunch, which was nice.

For those with a typical 9-5, is anyone else working Monday? I assumed, wrongly, that my office would be closed. We just got the internal memo saying we're open.

I'm kinda pissed about that. If Christmas falls on a Tuesday, we don't work Monday. Pretty sure the same goes for New Years.

I don't have a 9-5 as i work overnights plus the beginning of the month is our busy time so i am working this sunday and monday nights. I will attempt to sleep a bit on the 4th before people come over.....sucks but looks good on the paycheck..

We got an email a few weeks ago from CEO saying we are closed so we had time to plan trips.

United airlines takes away a seat from a toddler and gives it to another person, forces the mother to hold him in her Lap for a three hour flight

Besides the obvious issues with taking away her paid ticket, that's so wrong on a safety standpoint. Imagine if there had been some turbulence and they were seriously hurt because he was on her lap. I've flown with a 18-month old in my lap and that was hard enough, I can't imagine a 27-month old boy. Looking forward to my family flight with United over Thanksgiving, ha.

Anyone use a property management company in Chicago that they would recommend?

Interview a few. I probably met with 5-6 before I found someone I liked. It's the people that make the company

Funny how moving from the city to the burbs changes your mindset on local crime. We live in this quiet liitle corner of Northbrook, nothing ever goes on here.

Yesterday about 7pm, I'm coming home with my 5-year old daughter in the car, from a movie. I turn there corner and there are like six Northbrook Police squad cars all parked around my house, a bunch of cops standing around, including a crowd of them on my driveway. I parked nearby and flagged one down, he said there was a domestic situation like half a mile away, the guy ran and jumped into the creek one door down from our house. They caught the guy, so all clear.

But I have to say, it's weird how your mind builds a bubble even if you don't intend it too, then it feels very weird when it pops. Having the kid with me just amplifies it.

  • 1 month later...

We took a little road trip to see it, first trying to head towards Bloomington and then shot over to Champaign. Champaign had fairly clear skies and it was neat, but my wife and I are already talking about going to see the totality in 2024. I don't think I've seen a single person who saw the totality and said "overhyped" or something like that.

There's an annular eclipse in 2023, too, that'll travel across the western and southwestern parts of the country.

I just watched and took some pics from home. We were just under 90% coverage. I am about 98% positive we will make a family trip down to southern Indiana for the 2024 one. We have even started discussing places like Indianapolis or Turkey Run State Park, along with not leaving the day of the eclipse to give traffic a chance to die down.

I hope none of you guys live by Corpus Christi/Houston. 25 inches of rain sounds like a lot.

edit: Didn't see StrangeSox post earlier, but yeah, looks bad

Howdy. I'm in 5-20 inch forecast over the next week territory, TS force winds here. Tex, wherever he is, is probably in "Evac" territory, but I think he may already be traveling.

Some models have had areas hit 40. At this point it's just sitting back and seeing how much actually comes down and which spots get stuff stuck over them.

Hope that you have a pump and sand bags ready.

Do they have many homes with basements in Texas?
