Respecting the Bodies of Fallen Soldiers w/ Cameras Via TPM- CBS's Mark Knoller reported yesterday, Obama was the first president to visit arriving dead at Dover during the wars in Afghanistan or Iraq -- meaning that when it came to taking trips to Dover like Obama did yesterday morning, Bush never used to "do it" at all. Bush spent a LOT of time contacting families of slain soldiers - I have zero doubt about how much he cared about that. but getting on Obama for doing it his way is equally silly. It had nothing to do with wanting to look like a photo-op or not. He has been, and should be, criticized for strategic blunders that probably cost more lives then they should have, I've read a lot about what Bush went through when he met with those families and to say he didn't care is silly and really unfair to the man. Obama's visiting Dover was an entirely appropriate gesture and it's just as s***ty, offensive even, to imply the same about him so the non-controversy is really pissing me off. Whatever way the POTUS deems appropriate to show respect is fine by me. As long as they do it. Now if we're talking about Cheney not caring... hey, all bets are off, I'm convinced human lives were nothing more than numbers on a powerpoint slide or a spreadsheet to him.
