I mean I always go back to the 93-94 season they won 55 games and made it to conference semis and took Knicks to 7 games.

 

I also think looking back he did about exactly what you'd want to do when rebuilding except he had the unfortunate position of historically terrible drafts. He got a ton of talent and assets on that team just sold them at wrong time.

I appreciate the foresight that he had though. Floyd was a terrible hire. In Jonthan Abrams book called " Boys Among Men" about the HS generation of athletes going to NBA, there are very detailed stories about Krause. After the 5th title, Krause had a deal to trade Pippen. He loved Tracy McGrady and I guess McGrady even thought he was heading to Chicago. Would have been Pippen to Boston for multiple lottery picks and one of them was going to be McGrady. Jordan caught wind of this and balked. The Bulls obviously went on to win their 6th title but I appreciate the fact that Krause wanted to pair Jordan with McGrady and have McGrady be the star to lead the Bulls into the next generation. Krause was a forward thinker. He recognized that Brand was a solid player but not special and tried to pair Chandler and Curry instead. It didn't work but I get what he was trying. When he "retired" in 2003, that Bulls team had Curry, Chandler, Crawford, Jalen Rose, and Jay Williams.

Also remember how much slack he caught for how he was drooling over Yao Ming even though he drafted chandler/curry previous year? He was dead right. He would have drafted the best talent that draft and figured it out later. I have more respect for him now because a lot of the stuff he caught flack for he was running a modern rebuild.

 

Now, in my head I'm giving him benefit of doubt for jalen rose deal because I'm assuming he got the same sort of Reinsdorf pressure to start winning that Hahn did. But had they waited just one more year they would have gotten that amazing 03 draft and had Crawford, Artest, Wade/Melo/Anthony hopefully, Curry and Chandler.

 

But they also really should have tried to get KG harder.

They said adios to Michael not because he killed Kwami Brown. A lot of people apparently killed him. They got rid of him because they got him to play, make the team some money and didn't want to give him back his piece at the same price. Michael got played in DC.

 

If McGrady could play, and he could, he would have been fine with Michael, although his first season he struggled a bit, and Michael would have been gone.But it retrospect, the Bulls got another title, and that would have been the max if the had made the trade, and if they made the trade, they might not have won #6.

 

I saw McGrady on ESPN a few weeks ago and he was talking about that near trade. He said at the time potentially being traded for Scottie Pippen freaked him out. So it probably wouldn't have been MJ that killed him if he didn't become a player.

To my knowledge, Michael was the only one that called Kwame a flaming f***ing f**got. Michael had no worth to Washington outside of that of a player, He's a terrible talent evaluator (he thinks every NC guy can play), he was not going to lure any marquee FAs and his personality is no match for the modern young player. Even in Charlotte they had to literally sit him down and say to him "hey, it's a different era, let basketball people do basketball stuff and you sign the checks." Not an exact quote but something like that. 35 year old-MJ after 5 rings would've likely ruined 18-year old t-mac.

The talent and potential was absolutely there. It would have been interesting to see if Jordan could have gotten him to buy in at both ends of the floor like he did with Pippen. Not everyone has that level of drive, and it is really too bad we will never know. A Jordan-drive Tmac could have kept the run going for another decade instead of the disaster it turned into until Rose came along.

This. The owner completely screwed him.

 

I also read that Kwame didn't even want to go pro (he wanted to play at Florida), but he basically had to because of his family. He was a kid that shouldn't have been in the league. There have been many, many high school flameouts. It's much more likely that he was never going to be successful than it is that Mike ruined him. Put guys like KG, Lebron, Kobe, and TMac with Mike and I think they are just as good and in some cases even better.

For the record I don't think Jordan would have killed anybody, I was just pointing out the fact that bringing in Pippen in 87 is a tad bit different than bringing TMac in during the late 90's run.

With where his career has gone I'm also not surprised he's pushing the limits. Getting old doesn't seem like it will sit well with him.
