Awful nice of Florida to send their ace out there versus our #5 starter.

Danks 3-6, 4.34

Willis 7-6, 4.58

But, it could be a close game if Danks can pitch seven and keep his pitch count down early.

As long as the Sox put the ball in play against Dontrelle, they've got a puncher's chance. The fielding of the Marlins is just plain BAD! gosox2.gif
southsider2k5
Wow their ace's ERA is a quarter run higher than our 5th starter, and that is without any AL/NL differential factored in ohmy.gif

There's been a lot of talk about Dontrelle not being what he used to be.

Arent we like 3-14 vs Lefties though
BigEdWalsh
Righties are batting .322 off Willis. Lets hope that stat goes up even higher after tonight.

Will Dye be in there? We need him against left hander
MuckFinnesota
I'll be there tonight, and I'm 10-1 against NL opponents (4-0) against the Cubs.

I'd bet money he isn't... Guillen always rests guys if they come out for injury, even if they say they are ready to go.
Balta1701
Kick ass Danks.

That's okay. I'd be glad to see Terrero out there again.

Danks alone is giving me a reason to be excited about this game. smile.gif

He has sort of struggled recently. Hasn't made it through the 6th in any of his last 4 starts. I hope he will cut down on walks and pitch count tonight. Turning the game over to the White Sox bullpen early is just asking for trouble.
Greg The Bull Luzinski
... We have a chance in this game because neither Javy or Jose are starting. With a little luck, McDougal will not see action.
vandy125
gosox1.gif BOO WCIU! I never get those games out here.

I would love to see Danks pitching.

I hope its because lefties have no chance against Willis. Thome was running pretty gingerly after his homer last night. Gonzalez leading off is a joke.
Rowand44
Possibly the worst leadoff hitter in the history of baseball. Oh well, lets go Danks, Fields and Terrero.
Gene Honda Civic
Danks' last 5 starts....

24.2 IP, 32H, 5 HR, 16 BB, 14 K

Not pretty.
southsideirish71
Terrero gave up on that one.
Brian
Should of stayed with the change. Uggla is strong.
Kalapse
So now we start worrying about Danks?
southsideirish71
.282 hittng as a team against lefties.

Not good so far.

This is just about the time you expect a rookie to struggle a bit. Scouts start to come up with a plan of attack by now. So the kid needs to make another adjustment. He will have a dead arm period in about August that a lot of rookie have.

He needs to use that changeup more and more to offset his fastball.

And he really needs to get that cutter into his arsenal.

I guess I will. I was gonna give him time because he is a rookie. He just throws too many pitches, be it control problems or he gets knocked around, and is done after 5 and our pen comes in. That isn't cutting it.

If we are serious about contending, we have to send him down, right? Gio, Haeger, or Floyd?

If we are selling, have him tough it out.

It seems like almost every AB he is at 1-0. 2-1 counts, and for a guy with stuff that doesn't overpower anyone, thats not going to get it done.

Pound the zone.

He is about six months away from the control he needs to get the results his stuff dictates.

He needs to keep the ball down, and throw his fastball in and out.
He needs to throw that change low and away.
He needs to throw his hard breaking curve low for the strikeout.
He needs to throw the big bender for a backdoor.

Remember this kid should be in AAA this year, but is doing a pretty damn decent job up here. His polish isnt there yet.

The cutter will be the difference maker. The minute he can pound inside with the cutter like mark. Look out.
chisox72
D-Train looks lazy....

Let's hope we can hit tonight.

Florida is the fifth team tonight to score 3 runs in the first! ohmy.gif

Totally agree. Anyone who thought a 22 year old that had never seen the big leagues wasn't going to struggle was kidding themselves. All we can hope for that with every start he is learning on the job.

Danks will be fine.
elrockinMT
I don't think you win many games or show you are meant to stay in the bigs by giving up 3 runs in the first. But, that's just me

Cleveland gave up 3 in the first tonight as did the Mets.
Tony82087
Get hot JD.
elrockinMT
Another thing about Danks is that he seems to give up a lot of homers. There are times that he looks real good and I guess with a rookie some struggles are expected, but he gives up a lot of homers as does some of our other hurlers.
southsideirish71
Keep it up Dye.

Why? Because that has never happened to any pitcher before?? Christ...

Demote Willis now too....he just gave up 4.

Saw that...any numerologists in the house?

Look around Major League Baseball tonight.

the juiced balls are out!
