  1. While I agree that competing next year is very unlikely. They seems to think they will compete. And as Cease is the only SP they have on the roster right now that doesn't really suck (Kopech), I don't see Cease being moved.
  2. One can't help but wonder whether the culture would have developed better (not to mention talent on the field) if the Sox had given out one of them elusive 9 figure contracts to a guy named Bryce Harper?
  3. Yeah I think most of the Chicago area is more Cubs leaning. They do have more fans than the Sox do. The dynamic that interests me is how a team in the Chicago suburbs would be supported. I've lived most of my life in the NW burbs and we've never had a professional sports team that wasn't a major ordeal to travel to and from games. I think there's a ton of money out here (and other suburban areas) left on the table, pretty much untapped because all the professional sporting events are pain in the ass commutes.
  4. That's not really true, but it's also irrelevant. If they moved to the burbs they would largely be creating a new geographical fanbase and it would probably explode way beyond what the southside ever did in terms of team support.
  5. A better stadium situation will help the team sell for more money. I think this is all about that. Jerry has shown his interest over the years in the $$ that will come back whether its sold by him or his family after he passes away. The current park is ok, adequate at best probably, and definitely not in the greatest location, and it won't move any needles in a sale.
  6. They sure didn't let us enjoy this for very long.
  7. 2005 was an amazing year. I think what's meant is - in the 4 years before 2005 and the 2 years after 2005, the Sox did not make the playoffs. It was a one year window of being good, and teams that have one year windows of being good almost never win the World Series. Call it lucky, call it fortunate, whatever.
  8. Or maybe the time is right to sell, and it will more than make up for the capital gains taxes? What if a bidding war starts and the Sox sell for $3 billion or more? His family will make more than anticipated, even compared to what they previously would have expected from selling the team after his death.
  9. Yeah it would have to be with a new owner. I'm not sure Jerry would outlive the time it would take to build a stadium. But having two teams, you could split the tax burden between the 2 teams to lessen the load. and ultimately get the hotels, restaurants, bars, etc to pay most of the tax burden once its up and running.
  10. I didnt read all 4 pages, but has anyone brought up Arlington Park? There's plenty of room there for a football stadium, baseball stadium, parking, hotels and an entertainment district.
  11. Yeah I don't think I could remain a fan if they moved to Tennessee.
  12. It's not just the manager and coaching staff. It's the scouting, analytics, drafting, development, international spending (beyond Luis Robert Jr.), etc. If Jerry is unwilling to spend in a serious way on the infrastructure of this organization, the new guys that replace Hahn or KW will meet similar failures. They will never get a Theo Epstein to come here and work with one hand tied behind his back.
  13. The fight was minority vs minority. I don't see any racial biases here. And honesty Timmy has done this to himself. Calling himself the best player on the field while he was been one of the very worst players in baseball this year. Despite his words, he's no Jackie unfortunately.
  14. I think he was mostly talking about the pushing the hand off the bag incident from Friday. Also I think it was said he was harassing their rookie 1B the whole game leading up to it...but I don't know the story behind this.
  15. It's hard to call this a new rebuild, when they didn't even trade any major assets.
  16. I went with a C. I liked the moves they did make, including the Burger trade. But Cease needed to be moved. His stock isn't going to get higher, but can certainly bottom out if an injury occurs or performance decline happens. And most teams hold tighter to their top prospects over the winter than they do at the trading deadline.
  17. Yeah and you have to hope there's no performance decline or injuries in the meantime. His value cant really get any higher, but it sure can get a lot lower.
  18. I'm all for it. But why would Chernoff leave Cleveland for this shitshow of a franchise?
  19. Yeah I'm not celebrating KW having more input and he should be right out the door with Hahn. 2005 was 18 years ago and most of the time since then has been awful.
  20. What's the point of trading him now...you won't get anything for him. But yeah, he's a massive disappointment. I thought he was going to be our best hitter since Frank Thomas.
  21. No. We dont want the team to move. We want him to sell. Why would you make a post like this?
  22. Is it hyperbole? I agree he made a few nice trades to kickoff the rebuild. He's also made some very, very bad trades - 'he who should not be named' being the main one. But I was a fan of his back in the early part of the rebuild, despite the Tatis trade. What else is there? He's in his 11th season as GM and they've won 2 playoff games in his tenure, and lost both of those playoff series. I dont think its possible for any GM to have a record rooted as deep in failure as Hahn's, because other owners would have shitcanned him a long time ago. The rebuild is already dying a very painful death. Under Hahn, they've shown a near-total inability to draft or develop at an acceptable rate. What have they drafted or developed since Timmy - who was drafted 10 years ago? That right there is this team's biggest problem. It's almost impossible to compete for a championship if you basically never have good talent coming up in the system to plug holes or cover injuries. This is all on the GM and ownership.
  23. I'll go with Eloy. And I still think he will be a stud eventually. It will just be after the Sox get rid of him.
