  1. I'm not going to penalize a guy for finally emerging as a manager candidate. And we're just arguing in circles now about Grifol. You seem to want the guy, and I'd prefer someone else. Have a Happy Halloween!
  2. There's no way Ozzie gets hired. They don't have the roster make-upto play Ozzie ball. Hardly any of them know how to bunt. And they don t have much speed in the lineup.
  3. Long and Espada both have something Grifil doesn't have. Recent dugout experience in the World Series. Remember Hahn keyed on that point when describing his managerial search that was coming up at the time. Also, Long to my knowledge is new to being a manager candidate. I'm not sure he's ever really been passed over. And Epsada hasn't been passed over by his own team twice. I don't know jack about Espada, but if he could bring a little of what the Astros have brewing to the Sox, that would be a good thing. Where, I'm not really interested in anything that the Royals have brewing coming here. Obviously if he gets hired we'll all give the guy a chance and hope he succeeds. It just doesn't seem like a move to excite anyone from the position of most fans.
  4. Yeah but isnt he up to 5 times passed over? The Royals twice, the Marlins, the Tigers and I believe the Giants. And the team that knows him inside/out looked elsewhere. Yeah, I'll pass. He might be a good candidate if Jerry is looking for the cheapest manager in baseball.
  5. Yeah. And he doesn't seem to check the boxes as I recall Rick spelling out when he spoke to the media. This is the one guy I would be less excited about than Ozzie Guillen.
  6. If memory serves me right, the Sox picked 11th when they took Burger, and there was considered a large drop-off after the 10th pick.
  7. Has there even been confirmation that Long interviewed? all I saw was a vague report that the Sox were interested.
  8. Why would you assume they don't win in 05 without Ozzie? Maybe without Ozzie they repeat in 06? Who knows.
  9. I agree with just about all of this. But the 'they should resign' part is silly. In the real world, even people that have great jobs and make a lot of money, still need to keep working and pay their bills to maintain their standard of living. They dont need to bring hardship to their family because they don't agree with their owner's decisions. Me personally - I would prefer they don't bring Ozzie back. But I also think 90% of the impact of this off-season will be in the handling of trades and free agency, not the manager job. I might even say the next hitting coach is more important than the next manager as well.
  10. I get that. But Steve Stone alluded to Moncada being lazy on several occasions. He's clearly in good body shape for a human being. But is he putting in the work to be a complete baseball player? My first post wasn't worded well.
  11. When you get to the point of telling your players to not run out expected outs, something is seriously off. The soft tissue injuries can point to out of shape players. I wonder if these guys are showing up to spring training in mid season shape, as you kind of need to do these days? This isn't the 60s where you work off the winter fat in spring training. It's hard or impossible for those of us on the outside to really know. I just have a part of me that wonders if some of these key players are really 'all-in' on being the best baseball players they can be?
  12. The scary part is the talk that he won't sell before he passes due to tax reasons. He easily could live another 10+ years. Virginia McCaskey for example, turns 100 soon and is still going. And I hope he does live a long life. I'm not going to wish bad things on someone over a sport. But we do badly need new ownership. This fanbase deserves so much better than we have gotten over the last 4+ decades. The short-sightedness of refusing to sign big free agents (among other things) has killed this franchise. Imagine if Bryce Harper was on the Sox. And you could tell from public comments that he would have come here. Jerry would have gotten his money back multiple times over. and maybe his leadership and example would have been infectious to some of these talented, underachieving bums that make up the bulk of our rebuild.
  13. And his 2 run HR just put them within 3 outs of the World Series. it's a good thing the Sox didn't need Harper.
  14. The Astros look like they're about roll to another World Series title. If that happens, you'd have to think there's a reasonable chance Dusty retires and they give the reigns to Espada. He may not be in a rush to take a job from a lesser organization right now.
  15. Right. Especially if the same bozos are in charge of it.
  16. Jerry's wallet always comes before the White Sox. You might be on to something. He may be cutting his losses on this whole thing. That would explain abandoning Soxfest. You could almost see a massive trade with the Dodgers potentially happening, with Cease and a bunch of contracts Jerry wants to be rid of attached to the deal, and some big prospects coming back. I really hope this isn't the case. What scares me is - Jerry may have made a lot more money per year in the 'rebuilding years' than he has in the compete years - where they haven't really competed much. Attendance is up, but probably not even close enough to make up for the payroll rise (regardless of how foolishly the payroll was allocated). But going back to your comment about where he is in life. That might be why he does it. He may say, hey we teied but the rebuild failed. Lets cut our losses and get back to making more money, and setting up the franchise to be in good shape (financially) for when his days are over?
  17. Are we talking trading off Cease for a bunch of prospects, or moving bad contracts like Moncada, and basically paying another team to take it on?
  18. Hahn discluding Ozzie in the previous search may have just been reflective of what they had decided as a group. But yeah. I just don't see Ozzie being hired. Why would they want that circus back, including his sons? It doesnt really make sense from any of the 3's standpoint. Hopefully the Espada stuff was just a pre-mature report, but that they do end up settling on him when the time comes. He seemed like a good candidate.
  19. Reinsdorf meddling would be if rumors started coming out that TLR was changing his mind and might come back. I just don't see JR fighting for Ozzie after his past burned bridges comments.
  20. Why would you leave Nashville for Chicago? That's an awesome town! I was down there a month ago or so for a Pearl Jam show.
  21. I'm seeing this different than you guys. KW is known to not get along with Ozzie, and Reinsdorf has publicly stated in the past that Ozzie wont be the manager here again because he burned his bridges here. So if Ozzie in the picture, to me that can only ne coming from Rick Hahn. The Espada stuff was probably just a false media report.
  22. It was fun feeling for a few hours yesterday like they made a good move for a change. Of course it had to be to good to be true.
  23. Rick Hahn claimed in the press conference that White Sox ties is 'not something were looking for at this time'. I guess we will soon find out if he was lying.
  24. I have no problem with Thome, but he needs to do his time in the minors first.
  25. 200 mil is mostly holding serve, right? They were at 192 last year. They will drop Keuchel and Abreu's salary's, but other salaries will go up, plus a hole or two will need to be filled (from the dollar store as usual I'm sure). That should keep them in the 200 mil neighborhood. I definitely could see Conforto on a 'prove it' deal. The Sox love deals like that where they gamble on a player who's value is down and hope he performs like his old self.
