  1. Has Nix hit lead off before?
  2. If the Sox can be patient and wait for that knuckleball to float in there, they can do some real damage. I remember seeing the Sox hit some of those very far in the past.

Important Quotes from KW and AJP

Regardless, some of these guys are gone after this season. I like the fact that KW speaks his mind and calls out the team. We all have our guys we'd like to see suit up for the Sox next year and those we don't want to see as a Sox again. Time will tell who will be here and who won't be.
  4. I have to honest. After Boston went up 6-3 in the 8th I wanted to jump on SoxTalk and start a thread about how bad this team is. But I didn't. I calmed down, drank an Abita Purple Haze, and actually found everything to be pretty laughable. This team has played like this since day one. Flashes of greatness tempered heavily by bad baseball. The AL Central is a mess. No one wants this division. The Tigers have tried to give it to the Sox and the Twins, the Twins said they didn't want it, and the Sox have seemed to side with Minnesota. I think the most frustrating part for me is that the Sox are still in it. What I mean by that is if the Tigers were 10 games up, these losses wouldn't sting as much. The first two games of this road trip have hurt greatly because Detroit has decided to play good ball. Now the Sox are 4.5 games out, tied with the Twins. And still, the Sox are in it, albeit much less so than on Sunday. Yes, Linebrink did not pitch well last night. He has not pitched well as of late and has given up some key runs. But the offense has been absolutely brutal lately. First and third, no one out, and they blow it. That half inning should have ended with the Sox up by at least one. And that's just one example. Maybe we should start a thread where everyone can post an example of when the offense let us down. To myself and anyone who was in the room with me the past two days, I have said I'm done watching the Sox. But that was just the frustrated me venting. I'm not going to stop watching. I love baseball, and I love the Sox. I want to see Freddy pitch well, Beckham win the Rookie of the Year, Dye turn it around, Rios start hitting, and AJ continue to tear it up. It's just very frustrating right now because these games matter...a lot. There are 9 games left on this road trip, and if the Sox get their collective heads out of their asses they could play themselves right back into contention. However, they can also play themselves right out of it, too.

    What to do with Peavy?

There's no real reason to shut him down. I don't know if I'd pitch him this weekend, but he should definitely pitch this year.

    Game Thread

Tonight's game will be hard pressed to be uglier than last night's. I predict a slugging match. The green monster will get a workout. White Sox 10 - Red Sox 7...6 of Boston's 7 runs will occur before the end of the 5th.

    Baseball rule interpretation

This is from official MLB rules: Example: Not a force out. One out. Runner on first and third. Batter flies out. Two out. Runner on third tags up and scores. Runner on first tries to retouch before throw from fielder reaches first baseman, but does not get back in time and is out. Three outs. If, in umpire’s judgment, the runner from third touched home before the ball was held at first base, the run counts. So, by reading this, the run would count.

    Baseball rule interpretation

Without looking it up, I would say no. The defense would only have to touch second, and the runner is out. It's not like he was caught in a run down.

Contreras to pen; Peavy to start Saturday

I'm sorry if I missed it (and I probably did), but is there a confirmation that Peavy will pitch Saturday? All I've read this morning is that he had a good outing but has a nasty bruise on his elbow.

Win or lose, I hope the ugly inning doesn't set the tone for the road trip.

I was so angry my ears were ringing for a while. I've calmed down a bit, but that one play...pick up the ball...

    Alphabetical Conversation Thread

But he could also whore himself out to 50 really fat chicks for $1000 each. Could be a lucrative road trip.
  14. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 11:15 AM) Oh come on you know that's not true. Rios will be playing all over in the OF next year. Ozzie is horrible at making lineups. True. If Wise is still a Sox next year, Rios may not play at all.

    Alexei v. Valentin at ss

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 11:25 AM) Alexei needs to grow an enormous mustache before I can make this comparison.

    Alexei v. Valentin at ss

I agree that we haven't seen Alexei long enough there, but you can't help but be a little critical of his play. Valentin wasn't a superstar there either. If you compare what we saw of Jose and what we've seen of Alexei so far, I'd give the reluctant nod to Jose.
  17. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) There's no way to not be terrified Unless yr just looking towards 2010 with Beckham/Peavy for a full year. And Rios...at least we won't be constantly wondering about who's going to play CF.
  18. Hell, yeah I'm scared of the next 20 games. But, I'm sure Tiger fans feel the same way. Both teams have been trying to give the other team the division and so one wants it. I think, however, that the next 10 games may tell the tale. If the Sox man up against Boston, NY, and MN, and the Tigers continue to play the way they have been, the division should belong to the Sox.

    The Finer Things In Life

Sam Adams sells a four-pack of glasses that are designed to get the most flavor out of a beer. The shape allows the brew to breath not be warmed by your hand. There are also etchings on the bottom to create a constant stream of bubbles. I was skeptical until my dad bought me the glasses. They actually work.

    Road trip prediction poll.

The Sox have played tough teams fairly well...in spurts. This road trip will probably be no exception. I would like to think they could go 7-3 or better, but I chose 6-4. If the road trip ends with the Sox 2 games or less out of first, it'll be good.

    Who Is Your Favorite Stooge

So, I was bored recently and did a lot of reading on-line about the Three Stooges. Actually learned a lot I didn't know. So, who's your favorite stooge? Who is your least favorite? Have any trivia nuggest about the Stooges?
