  1. The season is over when the Sox are mathematically eliminated. I don't see that happening anytime soon. No matter who wins the division, I believe it will come down to the last week of the season. Neither the Sox nor the Twins have shown that they are ready to take off and leave the other team in the dust. If Manny could potentially help this team, I say go get him.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 09:02 AM) Based on how they pitched in the bigs earlier this season, I'm not. I thought Harrell pitched fairly well. Torres didn't. Hopefully our starting pitching does well and the bullpen issues aren't a huge concern.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 08:52 AM) 9 replies in a winner thread. NIce. My thoughts exactly. This was a big win with some typical-as-of-late drama with the bullpen. 3.5 games out "Don't stop now, boyyyys"
  4. All I have to say is Jenks That's how a good closer should pitch. He seems to perform better under more pressure. It was nice to see him perform like that.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 08:35 PM) I hope your kids aren't watching Teen Mom. No...let's see Big Time Rush and some silly animal show.
  6. My kids took over my TVs when I was in the shower. Thank God for SoxTalk.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) I want to be the first to call bulls***. When the hell does Kenny's stuff go public to this extent? Either the Sox are trying to force someone to claim him ahead of them, or Kenny is trying to hide who he is really after. This is not like the KW administration at all. Well, wasn't this speculated upon since the end of the non-waiver trade deadline?
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 01:12 PM) Even if he was put on waivers today and then immediately claimed by the Sox, there'd be 49 hours before you knew whether or not he'd actually been acquired. I overlooked that even though I should have known. How about we learn that Manny has been claimed?
  9. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) TEAHEN DH Woot!
  10. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 11:24 AM) What was wrong with sweeping the Royals instead of being their b****? That series sucked. Three extra inning games in a row, a double header that ended at 1:15 AM, Joe West, and a bullpen that imploded. I would like to say nothing like that will happen again, and I hope I'm right. Because of the lackluster performance of late, a sweep of the O's is almost a necessity. How about a win tonight, then news that Manny has been acquired, then two more wins. A nice bonus will be a few losses by the Twins. Go Sox!
  11. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) More from Joe: cst_sox According to the source, Williams thinks the addition of Manny would be a boost to the entire team. 11 minutes ago cst_sox "Ken Williams is pushing all his chips on getting Manny Ramirez,'' - a major-league source. This is getting interesting. I hope we don't get let down again.
  12. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 11:49 AM) Source: #WhiteSox plan to claim Manny. Story soon on FOXSports.com. #Rays #Rangers #Dodgers #MLB per ken rosenthal !
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) But then Lilli can't be on the post season roster, right? And his pinch running duties far out weigh anything Kotsay can contribute. The bat boy's skills out weigh anything Kotsay can contribute.
  14. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 10:39 AM) If we get him, I wonder what our lineup would look like? If Manny hits well, the lineup would look pretty beastly...provided Ozzie doesn't keep playing Kotsay.
  15. The Sox absolutely have to sweep this series, especially if the Twins keep winning. It starts tonight, Gavin!
  16. I notice that Stone pretty much keeps his mouth shut when Hawk goes on a rant. Unless there's a really bad call on the field, Steve just lets Hawk rant and rave. On a side note, I wonder why Stone doesn't jump on with Hawk's home run calls.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 09:33 AM) Because...what are the odds that a guy like ManRam is going to stay motivated if he's not playing for a huge amount of money? Valid point. But, if he wants a chance at bigger money he's going to have to play well and hard (that might be a stretch for Manny, I know) for the rest of this year. If he tanks, he's not going to get a good offer. If he plays well, tears the cover off the ball, and helps a team (Sox, etc.) make a playoff run, he could be in line for some decent cash next year. What I was getting at was that if he does play well, he's still not going to get a long term contract for a bunch of money. Maybe the Sox could afford a Manny next year. If he doesn't want to play for what he's offered, he can retire or go play for some independent league.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 09:16 AM) I would like to get him regardless of whether we need him for the postseason or not. I think acquiring him for the last 30 games or so would be a nice test run for possibly bringing him in via FA next season. He might be a good DH to have to help displace the loss of PK if Dayan were to take over at 1B and PK were to move on. I agree. He's not going to command a huge amount of money anymore, and he could be a good DH candidate. Why not give him a test run?
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 08:16 PM) I guess I was just oblivious that the show would actually go there with a 10 year old and it didn't cross my mind. Sepinwall brought up a good question in his blog about the episode. How did the director direct that girl in that scene? That's a good question. Obviously with almost all of it happening off screen she only had to begin the um, well. The girl's acting has been quite good this season. She seems to be playing the from a broken home pre-teen perfectly.

    Slaves?

    I like the money, but I also like spending time with the family. At my kids' ages right now they are involved in sports or dancing or something almost every day so it's hard to work late too often. For the most part, though, if I have to stay late my wife is home to take the kids where ever they need to go.
  21. My prediction is that Manny will most likely be a Chicago White Sox or a Dodger or a member of another team sometime between now and the end of the season. I'll further my prediction by saying he will swing a bat and occasionally make contact with a baseball thrown by a pitcher towards his bat. He may even hit the ball. That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing him in a White Sox uniform.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) I guess you just won't believe me and I live out here. We have had MANY STORMS that didn't Topeka, Lawrence, Olathe and never hit the K. If they canceled every game where storms were coming then the Royals wouldn't have a season. Why you believe Ozzie should have played God and started Linebrink is beyond me. They started the f***ing game. You play the cards given you. It's modern baseball's fault Jackson couldn't go in the DH. It's f***ing absurd that pitcher's can't pitch the following day after merely warming up and throwing a few pitches. But that's the way it is. The fault of this matter goes to . a.) God for creating thunderstorms that knocked out power at the K. The rain actually stopped. There could have been baseball at 9:30. b.) Joe West. c.) the pussification of America. Babying pitchers and they all get hurt anyway. Storms do pop up out of nowhere in the middle of summer, even up here. But everyone knew there was a storm coming, and they started the game anyway. They should have delayed it before the first pitch. But oh well. I agree about babying pitchers. He threw what, 10 or 15 pitches? Whatever. Pena did a fine job, though. It's too bad he didn't get the win he deserved.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 01:44 PM) Hate to say it, but it's too late. Might as well ride it out with what we've got and regroup in the winter again. I'm almost ready to agree, but this week is big for the Sox. If they somehow take 4 of 6 or better from Baltimore and NY, and the Twins lose a few, it'll look different. If they're 6+ games out after Sunday, it's over.
  24. I'd still take him over Kotsay at this point. From MLBTradeRumors: "Damon has been claimed by an unknown team, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The Tigers now have two days to make a trade with the claiming team, hand the player over with no return, or pull him back. SI's Jon Heyman tweets that he believes the Tigers would be willing to dump Damon for salary relief if a deal cannot be reached." Is he saying the Tigers would release him or do like the Jays did with Rios?
  25. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 01:23 PM) The pitching has sucked this year. There's no DH out there or ever will be to conquer that. It's not easy to manage in the big leagues when your pitching sucks. I know it's hard for some people to grasp that the season was lost coming out of the gate because of pitching and now the only way for Sox to win games is if games are 6 innings. Since we like to get in the habit of blaming coaches, maybe Coop is no longer useful. If there was any part of the team most fans were comfortable with it was the pitching. Unfortunately the starting pitching began badly while the bullpen was decent. Then there was a stretch when both were great. Now the bullpen is struggling. But to say the season was a lost cause before it started (because of the pitching) is a very uninformed post.
